Interesting traffic idea. What say you OT?

Saw a campaign advertisement from Rusty Secrist. Thought it was a pretty decent idea.
I knew Rusty a long time ago when he was an undergrad at LSU. Very good guy.
When traveling eastbound across the "new" Mississippi River Bridge, the left lane is often empty. For a small fraction of what it would take to build a loop, we can reconfigure that lane to flow eastbound onto Florida Blvd. With a few relatively inexpensive "fly-overs" and/or some light synchronization (Imagine that!), we could make Florida Blvd. "non-stop" from I-110 to Denham Springs. This would greatly relieve traffic on I-10.

I think logistically it would be easier to do that to Airline.
Anything would be cheaper than the loop/newer bridge.

I don't see how we can avoid this though

Maybe it's just a single lane elevated "tube" that floats above the surface streets.

Florida has service roads already in place. I would think most large intersections would have overpasses to give Fla the right of way. Smaller intersections could be blocked.

Light synchronization isn't as easy as that ad makes it sound.

Uh? Does this guy only cross the bridge at midnight?
So I-10 already goes down to one lane in the westbound direction so this guy wants to make it go down to one lane in the eastbound direction as well? No Thanks!

it's an interesting idea. Doesn't deal with the bottleneck of the bridge, other than the theory that some of the E-W traffic would now go into the N 110 lane to bypass it.

I didn't read it like that. I read it as creating a higher capacity exit for Florida BLVD off 110. Then essentially making Florida as much of a right of way highway as possible.
I've seen those types of highways work in Arkansas and NY. Local traffic flows onto a service/frontage road while there are 2-3 lanes of traffic proceeding non-stop.

I don't think this works until you get to Foster. Doesn't seem like there is enough room. I mean, Florida is 4 lanes with no turn lane out of downtown and at least to Acadian.

Traffic idea: Stay in West Baton Rouge Parish and you won't have traffic problems.

An elevated freeway on Florida Blvd would take a huge load off the interstate. To minimize cost, it could be one-way inbound (westbound) in the morning and one-way outbound (westbound) in the afternoons. Washington D.C. does this.
It would basically serve the downtown traffic during rush hours for commuters that currently use I-12. It should take a lot of traffic away from the I-10/I-12 intersection.

displacements would have been too severe, so the freeway was constructed on an elevated viaduct.

Creating an elevated expressway down airline highway from the old bridge to I-12 and to further down to I-10 is really what is needed, and seems like the easier of the options.

My plan is to release all state government workers (BR could at least be done first) who are able, to work from home. This will cut facility costs down and reduce traffic. By reducing traffic, maintenance costs on roads reduce. Workers become happier with their jobs and the good ones don't leave for private firms as often.

We could even do without something like this if more people worked from home.

The simple fix is to let traffic flow straight off the bridge.
So, just build an extension that goes straight and meets back up with I10 around acadian.
That eliminates the stupid 90 degree turn and merger with I110 and lets that process happen on a straightaway.
Problem solved. Maybe even add another lane width from acadian to I12/10 split.
It's not hard

Florida is 6 lanes through the widest part. You could make the outer two lanes frontage roads to not kill the businesses, and have the inner lanes part of a limited access hwy.
