He may have said something odd to them and followed them. May have oddly followed them in general.

I'd imagine he somehow gave them a reason, or as the other poster mentioned maybe it's something much more sinister if one took the picture while he was doing something to her friend. With two of them, one may have had a few moments after the attack began

I just can't imagine the pure sickness of the people that perpetrate these crimes.

I've been listening to true crime podcasts for about two weeks straight. You can't keep up with all the sickness. I truly favor a separate category of medieval punishment for child killers and torture murderers. Slowly separate them from their body parts over a period of weeks or something. Tuesday you lose your feet. Saturday you are dickless. Wednesday we take your fingers. That sort of 7th Century thing. We could let ISIS run it.

I used to be very in to forensic files, but it depresses the hell out of me just thinking about what these poor people suffered through. I know a lot of the feminism stuff is overblown, but it does seem like most of these abhorrent cases are sex crimes by men against women. That's why I can understand why a lot of women are so hesitant to talk to strangers, etc these days.

Where has it been stated that the girls photographed the man? Didn't hear it on the national news or see it in the linked article.

What if his reason for killing them, was that they took his picture?

Your thread title claims that they took the picture of him and that he killed them. Your post backs up none of those claims.

I looked up some articles and none say that the girls took the picture. They do say that the man is the suspect.

That's just horrible.

Am I missing something though? Why would you let a 13 and 14 year old go hiking or camping by themselves? That just seems like a terrible idea.

Very sad situation, regardless. Prayers to the victim's families.

Why do you think they were taking pictures of him?

And why is it so grainy that it's harder to make out who it may be?

My guess is he happened to be included in a picture that was taken of something else.

It is pixelated because he was a small part of the image and they zoomed in on it.

Correct, the girls were taking pics on Snapchat while they were walking the trail. The man in the released picture just happened to be in the frame. The reason the authorities suspect him is because the body's of the two girls were found 1/4th of a mile from the location of the released picture.

And it looks like he was obviously following them. "Stalking them". If he is the one responsible, I hope his remaining time on earth is filled with constant excruciating pain. Hell is too good for animals like this.
