There was a thread on here a week or so ago about stories people have/close calls, etc. A thread from another website got linked in there with a former Helldiver telling horror stories about how easy it is to die down there. Definitely read that and if you still want to get certified, go for it.

I love it. I have gone on some amazing diving trips and spear fishing trips.

Do it. Gives you a good excuse to travel to unique places. It's one of my favorite things to do, it's super relaxing but stimulating at the same time.

I don't think there is a more dangerous hobby than scubadiving- keep out of underwater caves

I'm certified- expect to drop between $500-1000 just to be "certified".

Expect it to be mostly older guys, and not 100 hot 20 something girls.

Obviously don't dive alone, but don't even bother getting certified unless you have at least one person with similar income/lifestyle as you also eating certified. Make an agreement to go on at least one trip a year. And youll see some great places.

And yes, stay out of the caves and don't spearfish until you're solid enough to perform any conceivable repair underwater without having a heart attack.

Do it man. I've done it quite a few times, mainly down in Roatan. It's a wonderful experience and it's like another world down there.

Incredible hobby. TBH most people are tards for never trying.

Someone else said it best - relaxing and invigorating. It's a whole other world down there. Nothing like being weightless 100 ft under and it's just you, your breathing, and the fishes. You couldn't be stressed about work or family if you tried. It's damn near meditative.

Thanks for the reminder - need to book a trip.

It's a VERY SAFE hobby if you're not a total dumbass about it. Get certified, pay attention to the class, and always dive with someone with lots of experience.
