If EVERYONE had a gun there would be thousands of gun related deaths every day. Probably mostly accidental

There's a reason these jerkoffs always target gun free zones...

Correct me if I'm wrong but I thought you could carry on this campus with a valid carry permit.

I say loosen gun laws as they are. Sure I can own a pistol, but why not an anti aircraft weapon, a tank, or a nuclear missile?
The second amendment was designed to let citizens help protect the America from enemies of the state. If any nation's military invaded, a glock wont suffice against modern military hardware.

Tougher gun control laws will make the violent criminals think twice before they obtain another weapon while they're out on probation, IMO.

No it won't. Tougher laws don't deter criminals. Does the death penalty deter murder?

We have to have an honest debate in this country about mental health. It's almost impossible to have someone involuntary committed in this country unless the actually do something to hurt themselves or others. ITs a complicated issue.
Everyone should read this before forming an opinion.

The second amendment guarantees an armed state militia .

From now on, when you buy a gun, you take a training class and get certified as a member of the state militia.

Then we declare those who commit felonies with a firearm enemy combatants. Anyone certified as a state militia member has the right to engage and terminate the enemy combatants.

No gun free zones and no CC permits required. Each of those discourage people from carrying and defending themselves or others from lunatics.

The right to own guns in this country is not for you to protect yourself, property, or family. We were given the option to bear arms so we could defend ourselves from a over bearing government. 100% of the time throughout history, governments have turned on the people, and forced them to live under tyranny. To combat this, our founding fathers opted to arm said people. It is an experiment that hasn't played out yet. One side effect is having issues like yesterday happen, but that is what we will always deal with under our system. I would rather chance having to live through a shooting gunman, than a tyrant taking over and not having the ability to take arms against him.

What would you change about gun control? Also, if you're fine with the gun control laws right now, let your voice be heard! What's your opinions on this?
There is no way to really change it. Some people just don't give a frick. You could still go in some place public and kill a bunch of people with a knife. You wouldn't kill as many, but you would kill some.

This is certainly part of the problem.

Also, too many law abiding citizens have become so pussified and want the Fed to rule over every part of their lives that they don't take the necessary steps to protect themselves.

And our kids have no skills in conflict resolution nor are they able to handle disappointment.....a.k.a. too many participation trophies. Too touchy feely.

How do you explain the vast majority of our 300+ million legally owned guns in private hands are never involved in any sort of mischief or misadventure. You're literally talking about fractions of a percent of these weapons are used in crime or result in accidental deaths.

You can't expect kids in a classroom to be able to protect themselves from an insane mass murderer. I have a gun in my truck but it doesn't do my 5 year old or 8 year old a bit of good at school.

The plain language of the independent clause of the amendment guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms. The militia clause is merely explanatory. The term "militia" contemplated the entire body of free men within a state. To deal with wild indians, bandits, or Frenchmen and such.

I would initiate firearm training in public schools and make it a mandatory part of the curriculum. Then I would encourage citizens to arm themselves and carry open or concealed handguns of their choice in their everyday life. Lastly I would eliminate gun free zones and allow people to protect their lives and their property anywhere in the United States. Gun crime would decrease immediately.

I agree with much of the sentiment. I just don't agree that I need government sanction to defend myself. It should be on them to act affirmatively to block that right, because I've violated society's compact by felonious acts of violence.

The bill of rights was about personal liberties needing to be guaranteed. Why would the government guarantee the existence of the goverment-run Army National Guard in the bill of rights?

It's two pronged- it keeps our defense in check, and also makes the government rightfully fearful of the people. It was written as a limitation on the government to de-arm the people. It even says "shall not be infringed"- the whole bill of rights is about what the government won't infringe as a right of the citizens.
