If someone tailgates you so closely do you just start going extra slow?

Talking about surface streets, not interstate.

Do you like the brake tap method or do you try to find a slow car next to you and just cruise?

I speed up if for some reason I was going under the limit. If i'm already speeding, I just continue on as is.

Depends. If I'm going 5-10 over the posted speed limit on a city street, they can frick off.

I'll usually move over, if possible.

If not, I'll hit the emergency flashers real quick, so it looks like a brake check.

this morning on jefferson i was doing about 5 over and passing cars. i honestly thought the guy behind me was just going to ride right on up into me for a mile and half stretch. i was afraid to even brake tap he was so close. after a red light though i just decided to go 35 with the woman next to me. i think the dude contemplated passing me in the turn lane.

Not really because I'm not a dick.

If I look down and see I'm going a bit slow, I'll pick up the pace. If I'm going at an appropriate speed (based on whatever type of street I'm on) I just won't do anything different. If I'm going at a pretty good speed and he's still on my bumper because he's simply a madman, I might ease off the gas and slow down a bit.

Brake tapping does absolutely nothing but put myself at a higher danger of getting rear ended.

I don't brake tap because that is particularly dangerous. I do, however, let off the gas to where I just slow down steadily.

I usually try and let them pass. You never know their situation. I was trying to get my son to the hospital Monday afternoon, and frickers decided they would do 2 below the speed limit. I rode their arse a bit.

Depends on what lane I'm in and if they can go around me without waiting for any other cars.

If yes to that, then I go slow, just not really slow. Some people do tailgate in the right lane even if the left lane is clear, that's what's annoying.

Wait until a red light or stop sign then stop short and quick. If they are far enough up your arse or just tailgating because they aren't paying attention they'll feel pretty stupid.

Alternatively it's fun to act like you're digging around in your console or something looking for something, if they can see you doing it.

definitely, in my original post I was assuming only one lane of traffic.

If I'm on a multiple lane road and I'm in the left lane, I'll gladly move to the right even if I think I'm going an appropriate speed. If people wanna go fast as hell, more power to em. I wont get in their way.

that's not that practical on surface streets. im not gonna get in the right lane if im passing people in the left. especially when i have to turn left myself fairly soon. tailgaters are just the absolute worst.

interstate of course is different.

I usually keep going whatever speed I'm going.

Defensive driving teaches to slow down if you are being tailgated.
