Please. I'm X, have been in the work force 16 years and the day I stepped into it I was more prepared and more brave than you'll ever be. I moved from BR to Silicon Valley to work my way up from the bottom. Had degrees in physics and ond in applied physics (MS EE), but I took a project engineer position at UL writing procedures for cooking appliances. I've worked all sorts of positions and currently work on the road doing fracture mechanics as an ME and fricking put in more hours than any of you pussies will. I hear it, "I deserve more money because I see the average online and you're not paying me that." Really, really, really? You want my salary even though you don't know shite. I could work circles around you in 5 different jobs, what can you do?

The worst thing Gen X'rs did was all the fricked up names we gave our kids.

We took individualism too far.

I'm putting my self through college while I work full time and intern on top of having my own place think I'm doing fine on that end.

You guys avoided this thinking and said let's just take our future kids money.

Gen X didn't make this mess. Our kids, the post millenials, will probably be the ones to clean it up.

No truer statement has been said on TD. I used to think no one could top the baby boomers as the worst generation. Boy was I wrong. The Millennials will be the worst generation in history and the boomers a distant 2nd.

and this really should hit home with the old folks

quote:

They bought things they couldn't afford. Borrowed money from their future children and grandchildren. They had good paying jobs with great benefits without needing a formal education yet didn't save any money, which is why they are still working.

I'm 28, my fiancé is 27 and our combined income is about 170k. We do well. She drives a '97 jeep with 102k miles (yes 102k from '97 is legit, idk how) and I drive a 2010 accord with 104k miles. We still rent and are saving up a hefty downpayment for a house. Learned from the generation before me that material shite is not worth it. It's crazy how many 40 and 50 somethings are still in frickin brand new Tahoes with their 5k a month mortgage.

The American Dream, I guess.

Boomers did frick this country up, but my generation isn't doing itself any favors. The snowflakes are a minority, but they're the most vocal too. The snowflake bullshite came from a combination of shitty professors and social media echo chambers. Gen X fricked up parenting too

Jersey is saying the opportunity to "earn it" has disappeared, which can easily argued.

So fricking what? You want a cookie or something?

Again with blaming others for your own problems. Every dime I've ever got I had to earn. What makes you think you're any different? You think you're special? Did your mommy tell you how clever and special you are and now you can't understand why everyone else doesn't treat you accordingly?

This world doesn't owe you a fricking thing, sunshine. You want something? You want the good life? Shut the frick up and work your arse off for it like the rest of us have done.

Gen X is just trying to avoid everything, can't really blame them for anything because they haven't really done anything and too small of a block to accomplish anything if they tried. Millenials are the push back of the mess the boomers made of everything. Only problem is they are pushing too far in the opposite direction and will frick shite up further. Boomers are worse though. Snowflakes are far better than the greedy assholes that completely wrecked the system.

Exaggerate much?

Clearly the best money you can spend is money from someone else. BTW Parents don't owe their kids any inheritance.

Jerry Seinfeld said it best, when his daughter asked him are they rich. He said "I am rich, you are dirt poor and have to earn your money."

Good luck with your old cars and massive down payment on a house that you are "going to buy".

I buy a brand new car every four years and pay very little interest if at all each time. Guess what I NEVER have to worry about them breaking down on me. All I do is put gas and oil in it and get everything fixed under warranty. Any money spent on cars as old as yours is a WASTE of money.

You cannot bring logic like this to the Millennials. They will not allow it. They will just ignore it while they sit around the table at Starbucks texting each other and not actually talking. Once they finish their $5 coffee drink(that they Instagramed a picture of) they will go to their parents home and complain how hard of a life they have.

Its hard to pay your cell phone bill, put gas in your car and pay for Starbucks on a $12 job. They cannot make more because they have no drive to get a better job, they will just demand more money.

Except that I have little to not debt outside of barely any student loans left and take that extra cash and invest.

Sorry I'm 28 and looking to buy multiple properties so I want to stay as cash positive as possible. I'm not looking to have recurring debt just so I can say I drive a brand new Camry.

Your plan to keep buying new cars every 4 years is a complete waste of money that could be spent on something making you money. Or something not making you money, that is far more worth it. I can think of a zillion things I'd rather do than drive a brand new car every 4 years. Like, see the world for instance.

Congrats on keeping up with the Jones' though. You in the red or the black? Be honest.

When do you plan on retiring? Be honest.

Since you mentioned it, this is the one thing that pisses me off most about millenials. They have never known the true systemic racism our Baby Boomer parents grew up in or what it took to get past it, or the strides Gen X made in not having racism as part of our lives. It's the manufactured, fake civil rights movement we're currently witnessing that I hold against them.
