You thundered in and told us in no uncertain times, this term is not used in tennis, and guys are giving you multiple examples where it has been used in tennis, that's all.

I played in college in the 90s. It was a term that was around. Your experience and Martinas experience isn't everyone's experience. We get it. You played college tennis. Lots of people did. The term has been used before and was not uncommon in the tennis circles I was in. It described a style of play. I bet you have not heard of the cobra style forehand either. But it was all the rage on the west coast in the late 90s.

I think the issue is a usual one for you, you're too absolute about your arguments.

i mean, its been 20+ years and you hadn't seen or heard of it. just making sure you're current now.

Wait. Did you play tennis?

An easy way to judge this is go back an listen to the previous matches he has called in the past 25 years and listen for how many times he has used that term. If he has used it quite often there is really nothing to be mad about.

You haven't heard. He played at LSU!

May not be common, but it is and has been used, even on a large, public scale. That's all.

Also kind of messed up that Venus declined to comment about it.
I wonder which of the rules she was following:
"If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all."
"If you can't even fake being outraged and offended, just stay silent so people assume you are."
"If what you want to say would piss of your liberal friends, don't say anything at all."

Awesome. It still isnt common at all.
So? He coined a new tennis phrase. It's called being creative.
I've played many years of tennis, and him using that word to describe her net play gives me a good idea of what her net play is like.
I don't care if the word is uncommon in the tennis world. It's a good descriptor.

There was an XBox tennis game and that term was used by the commentators all of the time.

We have to hear context in Adlers call to really know one way or the other, also Venus is a normally built woman, it's her sister who is bowed to the max and has gotten the "gorilla" slur/insults in the past if im not mistaken.

If ESPN would've taken the time to think about this even for 5 minutes before firing him, they wouldn't be getting sued right now.
Posted on 2/15/17 at 10:30 am to GRTiger
Given that the guy is known on Tour, you would think Venus would have just addressed it and said "no big deal" early on. I wonder why she didn't? I hope she isn't actually thinking he meant it as a racial thing.

You piss off 50% of people by saying something one way or the other.

Tennis.com article quote: The adjectives that come to mind to describe Radwanska are: Implacable; remote; unflappable; leisurely; languid; measured. She often plays from a low crouch, as if she’s dodging real bullets rather than optic yellow ones. It’s effective as a discipline that yields consistency, but it’s also an apt symbol. Hers is a game of the insurgent. It’s guerilla tennis—especially against taller, more powerful, more physical rivals.
I think this should settle the argument. He wins. The guy is broadcasting days upon days of tennis matches. Give him a break for using a term he's apparently heard from other tennis outlets.
If you have a problem with what I just typed, then call for the firing of Peter Bodo as well, the writer of the article linked in the post. Only problem is he was referring to Agnieszka Radwanska, a white player. So we can use the term "Guerilla" to describe a white player's game but not a black person's when the mean the same thing exactly?
