That would be the Baby Boomers.

I'm not getting into a generational war but I will say that after being labeled as directionless slackers for the better part of fifteen years, it's nice to see X getting some love over the past seven to ten years or so.

Exactly the point I was making, in 20 years we will be the has beens, gen y will be the greatest generation ever, and the millennialist will be spoiled rotten entitled slackers.

ETA: pay attention to the beginning of its a wonderful life, when George is out of high school his dad makes similar comments to this thread and that time period in the movie was probably early 40s. I think it's the scene when his brother is getting ready for Prom.

I'm not sure who I hate more out of the Baby Boomers or Generation X. Entitlement didn't start recently. It was all of you wimpy arse Gen X'ers suing people over everything and complaining that brought us to where we are. Who raised the "shitty, entitled" Generation Y? Face it. You did this, and in true Generation X form, you just pass the buck.

Generation Y is going to spawn a world with more sex, fun, and happiness, and you will all just have to watch it from your IROC-Z in tears.

Nah man it was gen. x. That generation is the most materialistic generation there is. Everybody had to try and out do their neighbors

Why do those in Generation Y not pluralize nouns that end with an S sound?

The same reason that we caused Vietnam, the Challenger and Columbia disasters, and Columbine. We just were born in those years, and everything before and after was deemed our fault. It's that god damned Richard Sherman being a thug, I tell ya!

I don't doubt this is what your generation believes but what is going to happen when all the people that are willing to work(and provide the environment/funding) die and/or retire?

Don't take how the media portrays the younger generations as the complete truth. We aren't like Miley Cyrus. We aren't any worse than other generations. We aren't all a bunch of lazy entitled punks.

Well gen Y needs to quit taking how their college professors portray the boomers as the complete truth. Look I agree with you that not everyone in gen y is as portrYed. Same can be said for genX and the boomers. The financial problems blamed on the boomers weren't created by all boomers. Just a small group. Most boomers ( and gen x) were just trying to make a living and raise their families. Gen y, however, has been awfully vocal in blaming everyone else. Yet they haven't really contributed anything to society as they are young and not really in a position to do so. My point is, quit blaming an entire generation for the current economic shite show. We are all living it just as you are. When you finally have your chance, try not to make the same mistakes as the older folks did.

Meantime, as a gen x person, I'll agree with the OP that Gen X is the tits.

Looks like we'll all be fricked, doesn't it? The booming tech sector and innovation coming from all of the people under 30 really sets a terrible trend for the future. How will we ever survive without the influence of Duran Duran, Styx, cocaine, and Cold War mentalities?!

This whole thread is cyclical for every generation. Of course we, the millennials, haven't taken control of the world yet...we aren't yet 30 years old with many still in high school and college. When the time comes, there are plenty of us to rise up and meet the challenge.

I also recognize how open this generation is to change for the better unlike many in our parents' generation. There are those who are lazy and won't work in each generation, but that's far too broad a stroke to claim all of Generation Y as "lazy, entitled punks".

quote:

It's not about changing the world. It is the sense of entitlement and need for instant gratification the current young generation has that is unbelievable.

What about the ambition that many of us have to change things and not settle for mediocrity? Call it a sense of entitlement if you like, but I work my arse off because I want more for myself and my family and believe that where you come from doesn't matter as much as what you do with the skills you have to earn the right to have and do the things you want.

You need to thank the Boomers and Xers for this. You inherited the fruits of their foundation.
