A friend of mine drinks at least 12 beers a day. Yet he gets up and goes to work every day and functions fine. He makes all family functions and kids games in various sports. Never misses a beat on anything, yet still drinks 12+ beers daily. Is that a problem?

His liver will be nonfunctional in some span of time and he will likely die early. If he is OK with this, then no.

It's not a problem and it's certainly none of your business .

I was in rehab with a guy who worked every day, but came home and drank a case of beer right after. Never drank hard liquor. He ended up getting taken by ambulance to the ER two days into rehab because his kidneys and liver both shut down. Died the next day. Shame because he had a good looking wife and two daughters under 10.

It's definitely his business, he's concerned about a problem that his friend might have now or in the future. I'd suggest an intervention.

alcohol withdrawals kill

Which withdrawals can actually kill?

Alcohol - Yes, after long term use, withdrawal from alcohol can kill. Alcohol withdrawal syndrome can take on mild, moderate, or severe forms. If while withdrawing from alcohol a person develops a fever, extreme nausea, diarrhea, or DT (delirium tremens), they need to be rushed to see a doctor as soon as possible. In fact, alcohol withdrawal (link is external) after heavy, chronic use is best managed under the care of a doctor or a professional medical detox unit. By using medications that relieve withdrawal symptoms, these professionals can essentially eliminate any of these risks.

6 pack is acceptable, but doing everyday seems like a "problem". 12 pack would get me drunk as a skunk every night (assuming its from 6-bedtime). That would be a problem for me at least. I dont think anyone can keep a remotely healthy lifestyle.

This kind of attitude prevents people from helping those they love, you're essentially killing people from lack of action.

To the op, have an intervention as soon as possible.

It will catch up with him at some point if he wants to live to see grandchildren and maybe even see his kids graduate from college.

read this

One way to tell is see if he can go 30 days without drinking a beer. If he can't he has a problem
