use the syringe type thing
sit on them and jam my thumb between their back teeth so they can't close their mouth
put syringe as far back as you can before you squirt medicine so they can't spit it out

My wife lets me do it because I handle it in a way her soft heart can't allow her to, it doesn't hurt the kids and it gets the job done quick and easy. I'd rather the kids cry for 10-15 seconds and be done than be a pussy and try to convince a toddler to take it themselves or without being uncomfortable.

When I have to give my cat medicine, I just grab her by the neck and shove it down her throat. I'm sure a toddler is similar.

My sister had a cat when we were little. Vet told us to grab the cat by the neck and shake it's head around to disorient it for a few seconds, then shove the meds in its mouth. Might work with a kid.

3 of my 4 were medicine champs, never an issue. I have one though....I could hold her down, bribe her, whatever and nothing works. I started giving it to her right before I woke her up for daycare. I gently roll her over to her side and put the syringe between her cheek and teeth then blow in her face. It works great. Most times she doesn't even realize I've given it to her.

I've perfected the one-arm headlock/arm-nullifier for my son. Luckily, I don't have to use it anymore. Once we got his tubes, he's rarely sick now and when he does take meds, he's good about just letting it happen.
