Mine's pretty thick. I have been asked on separate occasions if I was "from South Africa" and "what country are youse guys from?" .... To which I replied "Alabama"
Also, do you ever find yourself trying to mask your accent in a professional situation?

Not very thick at all. But my word choice is the giveaway.

It depends on where I am or who I'm with. I think it's about 3/10, but some people notice it immediately which would be closer to a 7/10 to others.
This is true for me as well.
I can also change it from a 0 to a 10 without sounding unnatural. And yes, I do cut out the yalls if I'm at a client out west or up north.

I say fixin.
I'm fixin to tump that barrel over.
When I'm at my farm I break into my old grandparents " I reckon I'll be over there directly."
And it sounds redneck but I'm not redneck just southern Louisiana.

From Deep South in LA, raised in a Cajun French culture... I'd say close to a 8/10. People think I'm from down the bayou.

I have a pretty noticeable drawl and if that doesn't give it away the words do.

Mine changes depending who I'm talking to. Speaking with my dad I sound like Boomhauer. Talking to friends out west I sound less southern.

How funky is your chicken? How loose is your goose?

Never thought it was too bad but when I talk to people not from the south they always comment on it

Mine is coonass mixed with hick. I have enough education under my belt that it is almost eradicated.
If I'm trying to sell something, 7 out of 10.
In an academic setting, 1 out of 10.
When I wanna sound threatening when we are traveling out of state/country, 10 out of 10.
At the office, I keep it at a 2 or 3 most days. Just enough to let them know it's there. And I have never been able to brealkvthe habit of nodding and/or saying ma'am as I pass a woman.

Can't stand when someone says they have no accent.. To someone else you have an accent.. Even if it's not specific to a certain region.. You still have an accent say to someone from outside the states etc..

if by southern, you mean redneck, then I'm not thick. I'm a French speaking coonass though
