I'm not saying it makes you some gross pedobear dude.

I'm just saying it's weird.

for me it was the cheek until he starts smelling his piss. then its the forehead or he kisses my cheek. my boys were pumpkins as babies and toddlers. now they're just handsome young fellas.

Its not weird to me. Some of my best memories as a child were my father showing me affection whether it was a word or a hug or a kiss. I want my kids to know the same affection.

No, we've done those threads before and general consensus is that kissing your kids on the lips is weird.

Well now it's fricking settled.

My parents hugged and gave me kisses when I was a child as well.....but on the cheek or forehead. I grew up in a very affectionate home and don't feel like I lacked for affection because I wasn't kissed on the lips by my parents as a child.

As long as you have the chance, because one day he won't want it, or maybe one day you won't be able to because he's gone.

Cheek? You're fine. I'm 22 and my dad hasn't pecked me on the cheek in a while but I wouldn't find it weird.

Mouth is weird...wife should stop that when they're 10ish.

Edit...I live 1000 miles away and I'll hug my dad any time I see him. If anyone thinks that is weird they have some problems.

Its all good. You grew up one way, others grew up other ways. You've got a perspective that's different than mine. The connotations of the word weird can get people defensive.

I guess it doesn't seem weird to me because my son is so young (just turned 2).

He'll let you know. I think mine was probably around 8 when he got "too old for kisses."

I'm lucky to still get a hug every now and then during the teenage years.

And, FWIW, my kid had the sweetest, chubbiest cheeks ever when he was a toddler. Couldn't resist planting those kisses back then. Nothing wrong with a little smooch on the mouth.

I can't ever remember my dad kissing me

But that's not to say he hasn't

Off topic, but is it generational to set an arbitrary time frame on reducing physical affection?

I'm not that old, but a little older than a lot of people on the OT.

In Eat, Pray, Love, Luz Gilbert talks about her Brazilian born lover's "over the top displays of affection" and how his son, who was born and raised in Australia, finally had to suggest that now that he was 14 maybe it was time for his dad to stop kissing him on the lips when he dropped him off at school.

Cultures vary.

My son is turning 4 and I still kiss him. I will probably do it until he's a teenager as it embarrasses him. Then I'll sneak one in every now and then on the fo'head to piss him off.

My dad wasn't affectionate growing up. Not me. I kiss my son a lot.
