Yeah, perhaps. (Don't crucify me, Ben Franklin kids)

Anyway, the answer to your question is: however much operators make.

The highest is capped at $23,000? That isn't too bad at all.

$2000 a month for high school isn't bad?

That's like paying out of state tuition for a university.

Live in st Charles parish, more house for the money, zero crime, great schools, 15 minutes to the city, minus traffic of course. Many back roads to take

Eta: live close to the river and flood insurance is 400 dollars a year

That was the ceiling on the list. The good majority were <$10,000. I assumed New Orleans would be pricier. Just for comparison, Lake Forest Academy is right around $52,000, University of Chicago Lab is around $31,000, Woodlands Academy of Sacred Heart is right at $50,000.

The Northshore is the way to go, because you won't need private schools if you pick one of the several great school districts. People talk trash about Slidell, but you can live a very good upper-middle class lifestyle for the $100-125K range with 3 kids. You can get a nice 4 bedroom house in a gated community for $300-325K. Northshore High had more National Merit finalists than Brother Martin and Holy Cross in recent years - top 5 in the state and on par with anything other that Jesuit and Ben Franklin. Enough good restaurants in the area to keep you happy, nice theater, shopping, etc. - and you're about 35-40 minutes from the French Quarter.

I can tell you the MCA tuition in that chart is a little low (especially for an 8th grader).

I've done the math and I'm pretty sure what you describe can be done for $75K, at a shoestring. But I do think for most people (like 99%) the tradeoffs you'd have to make to get by in NO on that salary would not be worth it.

Definitely. For it to be worth it I would want at least 125-150k if I was going for a 3 br 2 ba home in a good part of the city (and had 2 kids). The 4th bedroom and office space adds a ton of the price of real estate.

I'm 20 minutes away from the Quarter Uptown (slow drivers and 2 lane streets) and I still don't go down there most of the time because its a PITA.

Well, until I can reliably get Uber in my little corner. Don't know what the hell is up with that.

I'd start scouting schools first and decide from there. You can save a lot by applying to some of the charter schools.

I agree with the first sentence. But unfortunately, the charter schools in New Orleans (like Hynes and Lusher) require proof of residency to apply.

It's probably best to figure that you're going to spend about $10k/child in private school per year, and then apply to the charters once you're in New Orleans.

It's hard to say how much one would have to make to live comfortably in New Orleans because "comfortably" is a subjective term. Everyone spends their money differently. But you can find a place to buy in a decent neighborhood (Broadmoor, Mid-City, Navarre, Gentilly by the new Holy Cross, etc) for around $300k. But you really can't get four bedrooms for that, except perhaps in Algiers Point. If you require four bedrooms, your best bet is probably New Metairie, or the Northshore.

Private school in Orleans Parish will set you back apprx. 18-20k a kid x 3 = 60k a year in tuition.

I would say you would need to make at least 250k a year to be on the edge if you wanted to live Uptown, Garden District, Lower Garden District, Warehouse Dist. etc.

Third time in this thread now I've see you all posting the most expensive school pricing.
Jesuit,Brother Mountain, Mount Carmel, Dominican, etc are all less than $10K a year. These are all very much cheaper than the private schools of the same kind in most other cities.
