How much of a pompous douche are you when reviewing a place?

I just wrote a review. When I went back to proofread it, I literally muttered, "god damn man".
Idk what it is, but when reviewing a place, I turn into a combination of Hunter S. Thompson and Sterling Archer.
I will nitpick the smallest issue and alternately praise some expenditure on a grossly unnecessary luxury.

I just describe the good and bad of a place. Nothing douchy or pretentious about it. I'll drill them for poor service and praise them for good service.
You talking about a restaurant or a property?

Blur out your name and post the review.

Oh you're one of those people..

I do service first, then cleanliness, then overall experience. I give IMO accurate reviews with the stars instead of giving a 1 or 5 only.
I'm what you consider "elite" status because I got a badge by my name on Google maps lol

Yeah we need more clarity on this "place"?

I don't leave reviews unless the place was really outstanding or absolutely terrible. I don't want to mess with someone's business because I had a dish or appetizer that I didn't particularly care for or my hotel didn't bring me clean towels one day. I vote for the businesses that I like with my wallet.

People who review restaurants are miserable, my 2 cents.

I can still give a good review based on the experience but mention bad service by an individual so that others know that my service experience might not be the norm.

life's too short to be that person. rather than write a negative review that won't change your life or the businesses, I just chose to not spend my money there.

99% of my reviews are good. Have only given one bad one. Was a vehicle detailing service and they were absolutely terrible. Showed up late. Were rude as frick and did piss poor work. Maybe they were having a bad day but I left one nasty review.

I try to keep in mind that people are trying to make a living and have a bad day on occasion or make mistakes.
So I am probably low on the douche meter I would hope.

I just reviewed our vacation home. It got very out of hand.
The place was nice. Very nice. Damned near palatial. But the yard was not kept up as much as I would like. The wine selection was a joke. The neighborhood had an average home price of 1,000,000 plus, yet every single home had either an unkempt yard or an abandoned boat trailer tucked away.
What I find funny is, I'm just a poor country boy who wouldn't spend a million on a house even with 100 million in the bank. I drink shitty beer, cheap bourbon, and drive an SUV over 15 years old.
But for some reason, I turn into an Atlanta house wife when reviewing something.
At one point, I had legitimately typed, "I didn't like that the Bmbar contained a lower end Blendtec blender."
My arse uses a ninja, and I'm complaining about a Blendtec blender

See I disagree. I've given good and bad reviews on Trip Advisor and gotten responses for both from the reviewed. Nothing wrong with letting them know where they are lacking as well as what they are doing well.
But I've never written a completely negative review. There is always something you can compliment.

The problem with reviews, people think they are far more qualified to be a critic than they really are.
Posted on 6/13/17 at 8:02 pm to X123F45
Well look, it's an opinion, right? It's yours so it can't really be wrong. It might be unfounded or hypercritical, but it's your opinion. Nothing wrong with that
To Roger's point, I never review a resteraunt. I'm not qualified. I appreciate a fine dining experience, but I love Popeyes and cracklins (not at the same time) so I'm hardly an epicurean.

I only post reviews when I have something positive to say. The lack of positive reviews can be just as bad as negative reviews. I usually don't even read nor give credit to a review that starts with "WORST SERVICE EVER!!!" or anything like that.

I usually only review when I really love or really hate a place.

I don't review things. I'm not a millinial. That's for women.
