Doing the Dave Ramsey thing... so no credit cards.
I'm not anti credit card because of the points. I think Dave Ramsey is against them because of the mentality that it creates... meh, I'll just throw it on the CC. Also against the whole envelope system he preaches.

Zero, currently on track to payoff my cards within a year.

everything that i possibly can put on my amex, goes on my amex. hell, i pay my taxes with it. and i pay the balance off every other week.
Posted on 4/13/14 at 9:25 am to ShubutaMS
Basically everything except for utilities. Cars, truck, house and beach is paid for. I always pay off the entire balance each month, and never use the CC's for any payment where a percentage is charged to the consumer for using a card, i.e., property taxes, insurance, utilities.

I put about $1500 per month in business expenses on cc and pay off every month because I am reimbursed.....
Almost nothing personal goes on a cc unless there is no other way to pay (I.e. Internet purchases, etc.)

Just shy of 4k per month. Pay offs, no running balances.

I try and carry a small balance of 10-20%.
Just because I read that keeping a small balance helps build credit.
I wrecked my credit in college and am just now getting it back

Until that one month you think to yourself "I will just pay the minimum this month instead of the full balance"
I had about $2000 cash back the last 2 years with AMEX, plus the added protection you have if there is a dispute.

I use my credit card for nearly every purchase I make to get the cash back. Basically comes down to a penny off every dollar spent, 2-4 off on some purchases. No reason not too
End up putting about 5000 per month on it and have never carried a balance over.

quote:I can't believe that there are people who honestly think this. If you are responsible and pay your balance every month there is no reason to not have a card. You do realize that having a card like an Amex has some serious benefits? Airport lounge access, 24/7 concierge service, priority boarding, travel insurance, rental car insurance, entertainment access that only card holders get, no foreign transaction fee, and I haven't even started talking about reward points. I'm sorry but I think that it is foolish to pass up these services at $450 a year. My parents charge everything to their card and my brother, sister, and I put $500-1000 each to it. Any person who is smart with their personal finances knows that a credit card is a tool that when used correctly is very beneficial.
Zero. I know better than that.

I occasionally use my AMEX because you HAVE to pay it off every month. No way would I use a card that would let me carry a balance just for the fear of falling into their trap. Did that in college when I didn't know better and learned an expensive lesson.
So you don't think you have more financial discipline now than when you were in college? It's only a trap if you spend with no knowledge/concern of what you can afford to pay off at the end of the month.

I put around 1k each month, I always pay it off though....so the rewards are just that, rewards, not something I paid for through interest.

I don't think he's an idiot, he's made lots of money off of idiots though

I put around 3500 a month on one. Rack up the rewards. Pay off monthly. If I could put my mortgage payment on it I would. Just because some people are irresponsible doesn't mean one can't take advantage of the benefits.

That's probably advice he gives to idiots who can't control their own spending. There is literally no risk in using a credit cars and paying it off every month.

This is very true, I just get annoyed when people talk about him like he's a personal finance genius. His target audience is putt putt golfers though so I guess it works for stupid and/or irresponsible people.

I put about $3-4,000/month on my credit cards. I have about $27,000 in credit card debt at the moment.
