I don't mean to hijack your thread, but I have a question and didn't want to start my own thread yesterday.
I only pay for internet currently ($53/month). I am about to move to a new place and was considering getting cable there because I'm more likely to have visitors if I do so, and I'm sick of paying rent for a place I'm never at. Anyway, I get these "special offers" in the mail from Cox all the damn time.
The one I've been getting lately is to get Contour TV + HBO for $39.99 for 12 months.
Does this mean:
A. It is $39.99 for the first 12 months and then will go up?
or
B. You must sign a 12-month contract to receive that price?
I'm not really looking to sign a contract with Cox. But I'd be okay with it being option A since there's a chance my living situation will change again after 12 months anyway.

I think I pay my apartment complex $45 a month for cable and internet. Seems like a good deal for fast internet and all the TV channels I need.

Yeah I just bumped down, too much money. Thinking about sling TV. Just need to be able to watch football.

I pay $177 for Cox to rip me off every month just for cable and $55 for internet. Grand total of $232 a month.
I am like you and feel like I need to make some changes. I have to say I do like my 6 tuner dvr from Cox. Suggestions on saving money by cutting some services without completely eliminating cable or internet?

C. Both likely.
If you cancel that contract you'll have to pay a cancellation fee and once that 12 month contract is up you won't be able to get that discounted rate again.
At least that's the way it is with all the other cable companies.

$200 but that includes phone line
I need to do my annual "call Cox and be outraged so they lower my bill" phone call soon.

Well poo.
Realistically, I doubt I'll want to cancel and would be fine with paying that for a year.. but I just don't like the idea of being in a contract with them. And I don't trust these cable companies to not screw me in some way when I go to cancel.

That is the reality of pretty much any cable company though. And every cable company is gonna screw you someway or another.

Also.. looking at their website right now, all of their agreements are 2 years. So I'd have to sign a TWO year agreement just so I'd get the $39.99 price for ONE year.
Hell no. Screw that. My life isn't constant enough to sign two years on anything beyond a phone. My brother has Sling TV that he seems to like, and my parents use an antenna on the house for local channels that seems to work perfectly fine as far as Saints games and CBS games go, so I'll look into doing that.
