I'm not particularly offended by the flag. It has an historical meaning as I had many relatives who fought in regiments in Alabama during the war.
However, it cannot be denied that the resurgent use of the battle flag in the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s in various state flags or official political settings was due to the rise of activism against segregation and other Civil Rights deprivations. As a result, the battle flag became a symbol of racism to most in this country.
Again look at the raising of the Confederate Flag in SC in 1962, or the inclusion of the Confederate Flag in the GA state flag in 1956. It is a tainted symbol.

I'm from MS and proud as hell thats our state flag. I remember when it was a big deal when the state was voting on changing the flag a few years back. The vote wasn't even close when it came to keeping it getting ride of it. We obviously still fly it, so that should tell you how the vote went.

I also don't get what makes me a redneck for flying the flag that my state has endorsed. I looked it up, in 2001 the current flag prevailed in a vote by carrying 64% of the vote. In today's votes, that a pretty wide margin. I think that it is safe to say I'm not the only one that feels like this.
