re: How easy is it to win in traffic court?

If the officer doesn't show up you will win. Otherwise you lose. I have challenged 6 in my life and won once due to no show.
Once I had the officer so messed up under cross exam he was nearly in tears. He was new and didn't know much. Those waiting in the courtroom were snickering as I caught him in report errors. The judge was not impressed and ruled guilty and increased my fine by $10.00.

I got a ticket for an expired inspection sticker. Court date is coming up. Is this an easy win or not? I've heard that cops get paid overtime for showing up to court or something.
I once read, "if you can solve your problems with money, you really don't have any problems".

If the cop doesn't show the prosecutor will call him and get him there or just continue it 9/10 times. And you'll waste half a day.

Shrewd advocacy.

I was rolling my eyes until I got to this part. Well played.

It's funny how many people believe fairy tales about a judge just dismissing a ticket when a police officer doesn't show up for the first setting of a traffic ticket. When someone claims this, you already know the rest of the post is a lie.

I've won several jury trials for brake tags. The key is to pick jurors who have old cars as they are sympathetic to the defendants inability to afford a car that can pass rigorous inspection.

Was talking to a detail police officer (local pd) @ my job, that told me the law had relatively recently been changed to allow this as cause for a stop.
He told you wrong...it has always been allowed as pc for a stop.

It is not a lie. Nice that you know everything. It only happened once. I believe the previous poster that the judge or prosecuting atty would call until he showed up. I think in most cases this is probably gonna be the case. In my case the judge and atty and I were shooting the breeze for 15 minutes before the judge dismissed.
I am impressed with your acute abilities to detect liars. Some career advice... Don't give up your day job.

I've had friends beat speeding infractions (challenging whether or not the device used to detect them was properly and recently calibrated), but they spent $400 on a lawyer to beat a $180 ticket.
You know not just one, but multiple people that beat traffic tickets in court by hiring a lawyer for 400 dollars to fight a 180 dollar ticket, thereby losing more money in the process than the original fine? You're surrounded by geniuses my friend.
your story sounds like made up internet bullshite anyway.

Yes, but all that is really necessary is to write the DA's office and they'll move it to a non moving violation with full payment
Why do you guys keep saying this? Inspection stickers are NON moving violations to start with.

Just exactly where are you trying these cases?

Thanks for clearing it up, I really didn't think it sounded right when I was told that, which is why I prefaced it as just an anecdote and not fact.
Good to know

I think if I were an officer I probably wouldn't give two fricks if you won, loss, got it dismissed, or dropped. The fact that I would be getting paid overtime for just being there, win or lose, would make me lose about zero ounces of sleep.

I must be sheltered because this is the first time that I've ever read that. What's the logic?

I could believe that.

or just continue it 9/10 times.
This may be location dependent but I can't see that happening, barring some more serious offense like DWI.
A DA isn't going to give a crap if you win the cop lottery and get out of your inspection sticker or minor speeding offense.
Posted on 8/16/14 at 9:09 pm to King of New Orleans
IDK, was your brake tag expired or not? Seems unlikely a cop could frick that up. At least you didn't get shot.

I moved to Denham 11 years ago and had an expired sticker. Within two weeks, I was pulled over by DSPD COMPLETELY because of that. No other infraction or reason for stopping me. I was confused as shite as to what I had done. It was about a $125 ticket, I believe, but I got the sticker updated and went to DSPD office to show them and they dropped it to $75. bullshite.
