How do you handle out of state toll roads?

The Houston Toll Road thread indicates that this is an ongoing problem. I have cousins who travel to golf and they buy the stick on things that are useful for specific toll roads that they know they will use, and are stuck with four of them, so far.

Is there a "universal" tag?

I remember the hassle of putting money on our tag for the Crescent City Connection. Is there now a single charging tag for Louisiana or does the Causeway have its own?

Dont worry about it unless you run through 3 of them.

If its just one or two offenses, they wont bother out of state tags in the Houston Galveston area.

ETA: Thats what I and others have experienced.

In Dallas, the toll authority sends a bill for the tolls to the registered owner of the vehicle.

I-85N in Atlanta has changed the HOV lane to a pay lane (Peach-pass). They must bill the heck out of out-of-towners who are in the HOV lane legally before it turns into a pay-lane. I doubt these people realize they are suddenly driving in a non-HOV lane, bc it doesn't explain the change, just signs pop up telling you how much it costs to go to each exit.

For the state meationed best bet IMO is the TollTag.

Covers all tolls in Texas, one service in Oklahoma and Kansas, and covers parking costs at DFW and Love Field.

Wrong. Wrong. 3+ still ride for free.

Granted, they would need to register in advance so you are kinda right.

I blew 3 tolls in Florida this 4th of July while on vacation because I don't carry $5 worth of change in my car. I guess we'll find out in a week or two.

I've had issues in Houston with new vehicles and thinking I had the plate activated. According to what they told me, it takes 3 violations to be invoiced. If invoiced, it's like a 30 dollar penalty plus tolls. If less than 3 violations, they don't send you anything, but it is saved in the system until you get 3.
