Cocker Spaniel from a Snake Bite. (Little badass was going for her 7th kill)

Golden Retriever strangled herself when her collar caught on a fence wire while trying to get out the back yard.

Bloodhound was 13 and had growth rupture like yours and we put her down.

English Bulldog was 13 (Life expectancy is 8-10) and had congestive heart failure and kidney failure. I held his head as they put him to sleep and it was absolutely brutal.

Thanks for this wonderful thread to remind me. I'm going to go in a dark room and be sad for the rest of the day.

A lot of ppl get up close and shoot their dogs in the back of the head. They don't stand 10 yards away with a 12ga. and blow it to pieces.

Belgian Malinois died of old age - found him dead in the back yard. Buried him wrapped in a big blanket. 10 month old border collie loved the Malinois and dug down to the blanket and slept on top of it. Refill the hole, border collie digs down again. Put stuff on top of the hole - she moves it aside and digs down. Each time wife calls bawling because the border collie is resting on the blanket visiting her friend.

Thankfully, the weather was cold and by day two I moved a cast outdoor table and put it upside down on the burial hole.

My dog was killed by that mother fricker known as cancer. He somehow got mesothelioma and eventually the fluid buildup in his chest was happening so often he would have be drained every couple days. It was awful watching him deteriorate like that.

Same here practically. I wanted to be there also but I told my vet there was no way I would be able to drive home after the shot. He said no problem, he would come to the house, he understood.

I live only a half mile from his office. Yeah, I took it pretty hard.

The mutt I had growing up got hit by a car.

Not sure on the Lab I had after that. He got too big for me to handle, and some friends took him.

The one we got in college died under our deck about 15 months ago. He had some back trouble that summer, and the vet gave him some steroid or cortisone shots. Two days later he was bouncing around again just fine. My wife tried to get them to come in because it was getting cold one afternoon before Thanksgiving. Couldn't find him anywhere. She finally got a flashlight out and found him curled up next to some rocks under our deck stairs. I buried him at the back of the yard and used the rock he was curled up against as a grave marker.

Our other dog at the time was blind and deaf. She could make out shapes and get around okay, but you could yell at her and get no response. After the first dog passed we decided it was time to put her down. Buried her next to the other dog and found a similar rock from the yard to mark her final resting place.

One had heartworms and died delivering pups. Another had hip disease and the vet came to the house to put her down. Both were German sheps

15 year old springer spaniel. Had a really bad seizure and never came out of it. Had to take him to LSU on a Sunday to have him put down. THe hardest goodbye I ever had to make.

One or two die of old age. A couple got run over when they got out (but both were escape artists.) I had one young beagle that tried to climb a fence but had a leash on and hung itself.

Last dog was stricken with some type of organ failure. He had begun losing weight and acting sluggish so I had taken him to The vet. They gave him a pill, hoping it was only worms but warned me that due to his age, it was likely more serious. Walked outside the next day to see him sprawled on the carport with a black liquid seeping from his anal area. Called and reported same to the vet who gave me two options. Drive 45 minutes and pay him $50 for a lethal injection or handle it myself. I got my .22, loaded it with hollow points, placed it behind his right ear, closed my eyes and imagined my dog was actually my ex-wife, and pulled the trigger. Then I gave my old friend a proper burial.

Sophomore year of HS our dog got diagnosed with kidney failure. Vet said we could delay the progression indefinitely with 3x/week subcutaneous injections, so my mother and I did that for a little over a year. Well, one day mom accidentally put the needle into a vein. The solution went to the dog's heart and killed him after about 2-3 minutes of seizing. It was pretty traumatic, but I was a badass 17 year old so I went up to my room and bawled like an infant.
