If serious, one of the most stupid fricking things I have ever read on this site.
If so, then why was Portland voted foodiest town in the country? I've been there multiple times, and is one of my favorite places to visit. I can personally attest that there is no shortage of amazing restaurants to eat at in that town.

Well, considering New Orleans is one of the top culinary destination world and Houston is not, I say no. Their steak houses are rated better and that is about it.

Houston is midwest/southwest. That city is as "southern" as Cleveland. Stop trying to make it something it's not.

Houston does have pretty much everything. I just don't like to think of it as a "southern" city like Atlanta or Memphis.

Saltair and state of grace are good but it's more upscale dining.

East/Central Texas is the South in my book but....Houston is NOT the cultural CENTER of the south...hello...Atlanta?

Houston is in the south whether people want to believe it or not. Kinda weird how folks want to deny it as if being in the south is some great honor that can only be bestowed by the cultural gatekeepers of the OT.
Accepting that Houston is in the south, it is no surprise that the region's biggest, most diverse, most international, and most cosmopolitan city would have the best food. No, it won't beat New Orleans on Louisiana food ... But Houston has just about every kind of food imaginable because it is a world class city.

I'd probably say Atlanta is the cultural center of the South as well.

No, the number of tourists visiting Houston, smiling as they step off of the airplane at George Bush, saying "wow, I can't believe I'm finally in Houston" is pretty low and probably limited to NASA fanatics.
Apparently you missed the Final Four 2 weeks ago, which was in Houston. Or the All-Star game in 2013. Maybe in February of next year for Super Bowl 51? Nahh, you're right no one is ever excited to be in Houston.

placed the largest airport in the area an hour and a half away from it (at least).
I can get from Bush to downtown Houston faster than I can from Armstrong to the CBD. Truth.

Even Houston's nicer restaurants put off a "sports bar" atmosphere. I could be wrong, but I think a lot of you are overrating Houston's food presence. Outside of this Vietnamese presence (which I'm sure a great deal migrated from Mobile, AL and New Orleans, LA), it still is a town built on TexMex and heavier bar food (burgers and bbq).
What is Houston really doing unique? Cutting edge? Revolutionary? What chefs are there?
Does Houston have anything like:

Grant Atchaz's Alinea, The Aviary?
Tony Mantuano's Spiaggia, Terezo Piano, Bar Toma?
Takashi Yagiashi's Snapping Turtle?
Stephanie Izard's Girl and Goat?
Arun Sampanthavivat's Arun's Thai?
Dave Beran's Next?
Paul Kahan's Dove's Luncheonette, Big Star, Nico Osteria, The Publican?
Carrie Nahabedian's Nadha and Brindlle?
Jean Jeho's Everest?
Gale Gand and Rick Tramoto's TRU?
Jimmy Banno's Purple Pig?
Rick Bayless Frontera Grill, Xoco, and Topolobampo?

are we comparing houston to other cities in the south, or nationwide?

Someone in a previous post said Houston was third or fourth behind San Francisco and New York. I'm offering my input on that "nationwide" scale. Because Houston ahead of Chicago? GTFO.

Food is basically all New Orleans has to go on at this point.
It's a total shithole with shitty people ..."BUT we have great food!"
I don't know too many people who actually give a shite about cajun food, other than people from Louisiana. Only people in NO think their food is worth the hassle of having to interact with Louisiana/New Orleans locals. No one would go to NO if it weren't for tits and beer.

not sure who said that, but i'd be glad to put houston behind those cities.
i do think houston still has a long ways to go in getting up there with its very top end restaurants.

Mardi Gras?
Jazz and funk music?
Famous festivals - Jazz fest, voodoo fest?
Incredible, unique architecture?
Look man, I don't have a dog in the fight, but you are vastly underestimating New Orleans. It's an international tourist destination.

I can personally vouch for Foreign Correspondents, Hunky Dory, and Liberty Kitchen. Also try Mark's (IMO the best high end restaurant in Houston), Pass and Provisions (both sides), Papa's steak house, and original Ninfa's on Navigation, just to name a few. Houston may not be the greatest city in the country, but it's a good place to live and certainly has great and diverse food.
