Growing up in GA, Fords were the truck of the average guy, Chevy/GMC was the desired truck everyone wanted, and Rams were an afterthought.
Today, Ford is definitely the most common, but a lot of people are lusting after Rams.

I think few would debate that GM makes a good V8. The sound of a GM V8 just sounds great and this has always been the case. This coming from a Ford guy.

Are the new Ram's that bad? I recently test drove a new Ram, a Ford Ecoboost, and a Silverado.
The Ram was the best ride of all 3.
The Chevy was ok, just not a big fan of the interior.
The Ecoboost was nice, power wise it felt closer to my old Tundra than any of the others, didn't like the ride though. It was a used FX4 and the interior looked like it had been beat to hell, the truck only had 20K miles too. Makes me question the quality.
I'll probably get a new truck at the end of the year or early next year. Right now it's between the Ram or going back to the Tundra.

The new Ram's have rear independent suspension. The ride is quite nice. I still couldn't pull the trigger though. Too much distrust of them still.
That old 318 though. You couldn't kill it.

New Rams are great, people are just leery of Chrysler. But the new Rams and Jeep GCs, dating back to 2011, are pretty well liked, so I probably wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger.

Go Tundra.
It has plenty of power, it has tons of room on the inside (crew cab) and it looks good. I have had one for 6 years now and I still like my truck. I used to be a Ford guy...until I bought my Tundra.

Actually the transmission issues for Ram's are greatly over done and no longer a concern. Now they have 8 speed trans to go along with a 5.7 ltr HEMI that will blow the doors off any other truck.
IMO Chevy and GMC are fine trucks also.
Ford's are cheap pos's.
Having said that, I truly believe all companies make good cars now. The difference between best and worst is closer now than it has ever been.

Had a Ford 150 and engine blew at about 120k miles. Had a 2002 Dodge Ram and had some cosmetic issues. Currently have a 2004 Dodge Ram that just turned 192k miles on it. Besides a little rear end work, I've only had regular stuff done to it. Still has plenty of power and pulls like a beast. These threads are always lots of fun.
ETA: moral of the story is everyone has good / bad experiences with different brands of trucks.

My dodge truck was the biggest piece of shite I ever owned. It rode like a beast and loved it but it was in the shop every month

Who makes one better? That same engine platform has been around since the sixties.
That LS based engine nowadays has so much potential, most people don't even realize. The bottom ends are ROCK solid. Noone even comes close

If you want the best looking truck, get a Ram.
If you want a good hauling truck that will start having trouble at 80K miles, get a Ford/Chevy.
If you want a solid reliable truck, get a Toyota.

You are right, Steely Dan.
Anyone that doesn't believe that GM's 6.2 engine is the best gas engine on the planet doesn't know engines.
