Are the new Ram's that bad? I recently test drove a new Ram, a Ford Ecoboost, and a Silverado.

No. People are just ultra brand biased and refuse to believe a company can change. Most people saying Ram's are crap got a bad one back in the 90's or know someone who did. 2009+ Rams are solid.

The new Ram's have rear coil-sprung live axle suspension.

FIFY. It's a coil-sprung live axle as opposed to leaf springs.

Regarding the OP:
- Ford: seems to be associated with status thanks to the King Ranch. TFM/Rich boy's truck.
- Chevy/GMC: Country boy's truck
- Dodge: Working man's truck
- All of the above: solid overall, but none without faults.

From my experience working in North Dakota and Ohio you can hardly find anything other than a Ram on the pipeline.

If you want a solid reliable truck, get a Toyota.

We just bought a vehicle and test drove all the full sized trucks.

The GMC was the best, but I didn't care for the seat. I thought the front seats was over-bolstered and uncomfortable. It ruined the truck for me. My previous Chevrolet was fairly plain, but completely reliable and very comfortable. The new ones are much nicer but very expensive.

I was impressed with the Ram Eco Diesel. I'm reluctant to buy Chrysler products, but I couldn't find anything really wrong with it.

The F150 was disappointing. It was comfortable and powerful, but it was the oldest design and it showed. A new one is out next year.

I think Chevrolet/GMC has the best gasoline V8s, but I don't think anyone really makes a bad product in that segment. I would like to see better mid sized trucks, since I no longer need a full sized.

The Chevrolet and GMC Duramax diesel line is very impressive - especially in conjunction with the Allison. My experience with Ford's diesels were all terrible since they stopped making the 7.3L....but other than the Diesel engine, I think the Super Duties are okay. Ram used the Cummins products, which are very good.
