It's beyond fricked up but when you apply for the SBA loan tell them your business makes $0 and has no assets and you will be turned down, it's not like they are going to check into a loan that was denied ya know.

So lie to a federal government agency that you are expressly granting access to your tax returns upon applying for a loan? Seems like good advice.

I know 3 people who already received FEMA money. One family received the max payout. All 3 have good credit and would easily qualify for a SBA loan. So I'm not sure if your info is a 100% correct.

Let me get this straight. You are upset because the government wants to loan you money at below market rate instead of just giving you cash? Because that is what I just read.

And that is why our society is failing

Fat fingered the down vote but this is the white of the century! The biggest lasting effect of Katrina was that it set the expectation nationwide that daddy government would come in and save the day.
I know this is a terrible disaster and I want everyone to get as much help as possible but why do we think the government is the best choice to help?

If you work hard for a living, the gov't is gonna screw you. Period end of story. So if you just approach being flooded from that point you will have no soul crushing moment.

I make to much and my credit is probably to good to for all these grants.

God I hate "gotcha" douche bags like you.

You dig through a pile of text only looking for some tiny bit of info to pull a "GOTCHA" on to make your dillweed point about how society is failing and how you know it but everyone else doesn't.

frick off.

So I just spent an hour on the phone with FEMA. Basically, if you have a high credit score, you will qualify for an SBA Loan, which means you are inelegible to receive a grant from FEMA.

The only way to receive a FEMA grant is not to qualify for a loan.

Life doesn't sound too bad if you're a low life scumbag. It's really effed up when the government rewards shite heads, and punishes the productive citizens of society.

from everything I've read fema will not discriminate on income. The ability to get a loan at below market value is there in case the money given to you by FEMA is not enough to completely fix your home. FEMA pays per room so say a couple that is married with no kids in a 3 bedroom home. That couple will only be paid by FEMA for the master bed, living, dining, kitchen, master bath, garage. If that couple had 2 children then the other bedrooms would be approved for assistance.

From one site:

quote:

4. If you suffer from financial hardship, tell FEMA when you register. While the general rule is that, in order to receive certain kinds of financial aid from FEMA, you first need to apply for a loan from SBA and be denied, this requirement can be waived if you suffer from financial hardship. FEMA will not require you to provide tax or bank records to verify financial status.

FEMA

Nothing will ever be easy when dealing with these guys.

The loans they push to give out at a 2% interest rate is pooled from tax payers money.

So essentially you're borrowing your own money from them and paying them interest to use your own money. That's a better setup than the mafia or loan sharks had created.

I wonder why Obama didn't say that during his speech when he said he'd be there for you even after the water leaves?

You can have an 800+ score, but there are other things, such as income, that you need to "qualify" for a 40k loan.

OP needs to update the post. It's obvious his situation of being denied is only for contents and belongings and not structural damage.

Parents neighborhood already had some FEMA adjusters come as well as my parents.

Two so far have been told they would receive upwards of 10k and all would easily qualify for an SBA loan and have good credit.

It gets worse. The better your credit and financial situation the worse rate you will get on the loan.

I thought to myself.. shouldn't that be backwards.

It's modern day discrimination.

Blows my mind the levels we go to as a country to make sure degenerates are taken care of.

Sorta like that commercial on radio about wiping student debt away... What's odds a white guy or gal with 50k in loans and a good job qualifies?

I'm kinda jumping in late to this thread and don't feel like reading 6 pages, but I think I have to disagree with OP. My credit score is above 750 and I've already been approved by FEMA for a grant. I'm not sure if it depends on the agent that was sent and what he/she put in your file or if it is something else but credit score is not a factor based on the fact that we have around the same.

Edited the 150 lol...
