Absolutely, they will need whatever they can get. However, my uncle is a proud man. He will likely just start over, with sweat equity. He probably couldn't afford another loan to repay, if that's what FEMA is giving out to people who have good credit. Like I said, I don't know what the status of his FEMA application is right now.

I guess my point is, you cant always judge a book by its cover. And those people who were in here talking about needing assistance from FEMA being avoidable, that's a crock of shite.

Wow. Good deal. My flood insurance is $450/year and I've never flooded, not in '83 and not this time.

Have you gotten a flood elevation certification from a surveyor. It cost about $300 but our insurance dropped from around a $100 per year and we live in a flood zone.

if you have a high credit score, you will qualify for an SBA Loan, which means you are inelegible to receive a grant from FEMA.

So run up your credit cards, get an unsecured loan from your bank, pocket the money, don't pay them back, then get a FEMA grant. Problem solved!

Seriously, though, yes that sucks.

You keep saying this but it's wrong. Let's just leave it at that.

I checked with State Farm today. Have to pay $450 a year lump sum. GMFS will not escrow in because I'm in flood zone X. So, will have to set aside a little each paycheck now instead of signing up right away.

It's not a lot, but a little too much to just sign up suddenly. When you add tuition for the kids, car note, house note, etc.

Kind of sucks, actually. I wanted to go to sleep tonight saying I have flood insurance.

my Wife's aunt waited 6 hours to try and get DSNAP and was denied based on income. She doesn't make hardly anything. Apparently you have to pretty much qualify for SNAP to get DSNAP which fir those people had extra benefits extended automatically

I hate what people are going through but reading a thread with all the OT ballers complaining they don't qualify for food stamps is kinda sureal.

For how many people?

My family is on a very fixed income and their combined income is def less than 40k. My dad said that before the flood they applied for regular food stamps and were denied because their income level was too high.

1 earner and 1 87 Year old woman.

Lost at least 95% of all possessions with nothing in the bank.

Denied DSNAP. They will not be able to begin to even rebuild for at least a year.

So who the frick is all this assistance supposed to help? The legal poor already get assistance. The elderly poor can't get shite.

Yeah that is messed up. It sounds like they should have qualified for something. I'm sorry that happened to your aunt, that must have been very upsetting for her to wait in line that long to be rejected.

Didn't they do something after Katrina for all the people in BR that were housing friends/relatives displaced by the storm? Seems like they should do something like that again as well since many people are now housing friends/relatives right now.

It is absolutely the truth. Not everyone can avoid needing assistance in a devastating natural disaster. You need to get off of your moral/superior high horse.
