Bluebonnet is not a viable option, regardless of what any resident of any neighborhood says.

Oh bullshite! All I ever hear is a vociferous refrain about NIMBYs in the hinterlands from the elite city folks here especially when it comes to infrastructure.
Yet when said infrastructure threatens to inconvenience them…well that’s just not feasible. It’s a bad plan. The area is overburdened already!!

Not so pleasant when it’s you that it’s happening to, eh?

As to Bluebonnet, I understand your point. This either needs to be a bypass to take traffic around the whole area or a small bridge like the AB that’s for moving the plant traffic across the river.

Whatever is decided, I am confident it will be done long after I’m gone. From the area or this earth.

The bottle neck eastbound on I-10 off the bridge is borderline criminal and a sign of an incompetent government at work.

Back in college we would go wakeboard on the intracoastal and try and come back across the bridge from LA1 to I-10 a few times a week. It was awful then and I can't imagine what it's going to be like once the construction starts

So the widening of 10 and a new bridge, and STILL no way to go around Baton Rouge traffic when traveling through.

Addis, Addis, or Addis.

Only a politician would consider anything south of there.

As someone that lives near one of these options I have to be hoping they go with one of the other options right?

Just put the thing in Plaquemine and split the distance between the miss river bridge and the sunshine.

Why is this hard?

Because you also have to have suitable feeders and not be placed in a location that would cause major navigational problems to ship traffic. You also need to put it in a place with fairly stable geology and relatively simpler river hydraulics.

Does either plan involve LA1 and or LA30 expansion? Like to a 4 lane highway with no lights?

How is there even a debate? The top most bridge should be the only option. Why build it so far from population centers and I-12?

The only argument elsewhere would be the one near Saint Gabriel, but include a 2 lane highway straight to the interstate.

Might be worth 50 cents when it's due and payable

Building the bridge at Bluebonnet would gridlock traffic in all of south Baton Rouge. I realize this is a regional project and not just a Baton Rouge project, but improving traffic in the Baton Rouge area is certainly ONE of the goals of this bridge project. Locating the bridge at Bluebonnet would not improve traffic in Baton Rouge, and instead would make it worse.

Also, the retail/commercial components of the Harveston development that Wampold is building along Bluebonnet will be the crown jewel of Baton Rouge developments, and one of if not the nicest developments in the entire state. Construction on this has already started. Locating the bridge at Bluebonnet would result in on ramps and off ramps being built right through the middle of this portion of the Harveston development, and would result in a freeway going right through the heart of the retail portion of the Harveston town square. In other words, it would completely destroy the entire Harveston development, which would be a huge loss for the city and the state.

I'm having a hard time figuring out where all of the traffic would go from there other than 30. Bluebonnet is a cluster already.

that's why I would prefer further south

Or the Coast Guard, which said that the bridge piers would have to be very far apart given the navigation issues there.

This.

But I'd seriously take any of the northernmost 3-4 crossings. Just build it.

An imperfect crossing is better than no crossing.

South of Plaquemine should be a non-starter. Whoever came up with the idea for a bridge south of White Castle should be executed.

Anything south that then connects 10 and 12 on the east side of the denham springs area. That's what's needed for a proper "loop" or bypass.

Yep.

And since the bridge crossing is the most difficult piece to plan and construction, we could pretty much design everything else around it unless they put it in an incredibly stupid place....like way the hell down in White Castle.

They need to stop screwing around and pick a location. Or they will lose out on a boat load of state funding.

Any of the crossings at St. Gabriel or north will do. Just pick one and start moving.

The bridge needs to be an expressway to I-10 in Gonzales.

Connect it to LA 30 in Saint Gabriel and run in down to Gonzales.

This is the way.
