Makes no difference. This is what they need to do

Democracy absolutely sucks when it comes to getting major infrastructure projects built.

Saddam Hussein would have simply said "Build a bridge here." And it would be done.

I understand your point. But is this actually going to be a loop or just an alternative route over the river? Cause many of these locations appear to be just that. Another river crossing. Not an actual loop or bypass. Just a way to get the plant traffic home or to work. And I’m fine with that.

I’ve been saying that they need a regional plan and the location of a new bridge depends on what the master plan is.

Our fearless Gubinah should get ahead of the issue and mandate that any bridge built should link to I-10 IN A.P.DIRECTLY WITH NO RED LIGHTS, STOP SIGNS, ETC. 4 lane it with enough room to 6 lane in the future without having to cause major construction and have it set up to be I-410 in the future to connect somewhere in WBR.

Bluebonnet is the only option. Get BR traffic off the Horace Wilkinson bridge and leave it to interstate traffic.

All the other options are a rehash of the Audubon Bridge. Bridges nobody will ever use.

Build it south of Plaquemine. Construct an interchange somewhere around Grosse Tete with an expressway that diverts New Orleans and plant traffic to I-10 via a new bridge and expanded LA30.

Could also include an additional northbound expressway at Grosse Tete that directs airport, Southern, Zachary, St Francisville, etc. traffic to the Huey P Long bridge.

I like your plan. But we need to add a wider, better Airline highway to it. Not necessarily a freeway, but it has to move faster and more efficiently.

Other than that, they should just pay you to pick the alignment of all these highways instead of these consultants.

I don't think you would get the permits needed to build in the wetlands like that. Plus the cost would be outrageous. If you could get the permits, would that whole stretch from Grosse Tete to Bayou Goula have to be elevated?

If only we could couple this with a crossing near the plaquemine ferry…

But who do I think I am asking for 2 bridges when I know this state likely can’t/won’t even build 1

Do the people proposing Bayou Goula know that there's a sunken Coast Guard cutter right where their bridge crossing runs?

quote:

At approximately 1829 C.S.T. on 7 December 1968, the "downbound" White Alder collided with the "upbound" M/V Helena, a 455-foot Taiwanese freighter in the Mississippi River at mile 195.3 above Head of Passes near White Castle, Louisiana and sank in 75-feet of water. Three of the crew of twenty were rescued, the other seventeen perished. Divers recovered the bodies of three of the crewmen but river sediment buried the cutter so quickly that continued recovery and salvage operations proved impractical. The Coast Guard decided to leave the remaining 14 crewmen entombed in the sunken cutter which to this day remains buried in the bottom of the Mississippi River.

Totally agree with everyone you said. My fear is that they’re going to build the bridge without improving/expanding the surrounding roads.

Like yall said, why isn't something like this possible? Other cities comparable to BR finished construction 20 years ago!

The efforts to build the bridge in the 1990s was shot down because the people in the surrounding parishes did not want it and packed public meetings to voice their displeasure. Therefore, the local politicians did not pursue this option.

This negative attitude of "It will never get done" and "Not in my backyard" is why we are in the situation we are in today.

Just think -- if McHugh and Holden had support, we would have these improvements now -- probably in your lifetime.

How can y'all not remember how hard Kip Holden fought for a loop when he was Mayor? That was shot down, too.

Because LADOTD is still trying to figure out how to connect 2 sections of I-49 in Shreveport 10 years later.

So what happens when it gets to the westbank? If people think the corps of engineers is going to allow them to build through the wetlands they are dreaming and if they do the price tag will be in the tens of billions.

Central Thruway is about 3 miles.

Grosse Tete to Bayou Goula is at least 20. and much of that is the Atchafalaya Basin.
