Have you checked what it will cost you just for parking yet ? Boston is pretty expensive and it can be up there just for that.

A beater that runs. Serious too. Why spend all this money towards a vehicle that you will be driving around for the company?

Plus, should you lose your job, your then stuck with a huge monthly note.

Don't let stupid come with zeroes on the end of it.

In Boston, I live in the city itself. It will be for traveling around the northeast for work (governmental consulting) and driving around clients (generally legislators).

In that case I would go mid (or small "full") size SUV. I like Tahoes and the like, although they're not great values IMO, but I wouldn't want one in Boston.

I'll let everyone else give you car suggestions, but I prefer to take clients in an SUV (attorney here) unless they're disabled/elderly. The size I'd want would be in the MDX, BMW X5, Volvo XC90, Mercedes ML 350 arena (I do not like the new MBs though). For maintenance and performance, I like the MDX above the others, but all would be decent options.

A 4 runner is always an option, but that's a different type of appeal and may not suit your needs.

Parking is really expensive but I'm going to be moving to a new apartment just outside the city in 2 months where the parking will be free.

If I stayed here though, parking is $450/mo where I'm at.

They send the money directly to the car company. So either I lease a car or they get to keep the money. Unfortunately, pocketing the cash isn't an option. Otherwise I would be all about that.

Even if this is the case, it doesn't make sense to financially obligate yourself to a vehicle payment that you're on the hook for (i.e. the vehicle will be in your name) should you lose your job.

Also, I'd be real leery of the company paying your vehicle on your behalf, especially if you're working for a big company. Breakdown in communication and your payment could be late. And guess who gets stuck with the late payment fee? Yes, the guy who's name on the title and registration. 30 days late, good luck cleaning that up with the credit reporting agencies. Company goes bankrupt, closes its doors without notice, who's on the hook?

If I were you, I'd restructure the terms of the salary agreement. If you're a valued asset, they will not let this stand between them.
