never been to the Magazine Street area where my wife will shop and I will sit in various establishments eating and drinking while the shopping takes place. We are staying at Le Pavillion. So, the question for those of you in the know is this...I know Magazine street is a long mofo. When we are telling the cabbie where to take us to being with, what area do you suggest?

I'd go around the Bulldog area, can walk most places from there, shopping, eating, drinking.

The bulldog is in the 3000 block I believe. It's a good middle point.

Tracey's Pub on the corner of Magazine is pretty cool if you can tolerate the smoke.

No. And I am honestly not sure why. Always kinda knew about it, just never made it over there.

I'd get dropped off at Mag and Felicity and walk up river towards the park.

Yeah. Have the cabbie (or uber guy if you're inclined) take you down Magazine from downtown. That way you can see what there is on the way to Bulldog. Past the bulldog there are still a ton of women's shops and furniture places, but that's a great middle spot.

Go take a good look at the statue in Lee Circle. Apparently it won't be there for long...

That's a good point.
I don't know what you're into, but if she'll let you separate, there are any number of fairly decent bars in about a 15 block stretch. As has been mentioned the Bulldog is a good central point.

If you like a good cigar, Mayan Imports is a nice shop, with a good selection and a comfortable place to rest. The block it's on, across from Joey K's restaurant has a number of shops, as well as the preceding and subsequent blocks in the area between Jackson and Napoleon.

Musician? New Orleans Music Exchange is on the downtown river corner of Magazine St. and Louisiana Ave. It's a wonderful shop full of instruments and equipment. It defies description.

Just take the Magazine Street bus. The busses are convenient, cheap, well air-conditioned and actually pretty nice. Never had an issue with the bus.

Go to Google maps and type 'shops on magazine st new orleans la' (same for bars or restaurants). Zoom in or hover over the dots.

As far as the shops, you'll have the decide based on your wife's interests. I wouldn't go to the Jackson Av area, but if I am near by I might stop by Parasol's Bar (po-boys) (3rd & Constance - one block off Magazine). At the other end, near the park we've been to Chappy's (creole & seafood) and if you have the need to spend a lot more, Coquette (near Washington Av.

It's been a while, but I think it may be safer escorting your wife than hanging in a bar.

Go to Fleurty Girl on Magazine... it's everything Nawlins: t-shirts, arts and crafts done by NOLA artists, costume jewelry, wall hangings, etc.

It's cheaper than the antique stores.

Juan's Flying Burrito is pretty good Mex. It is closer to Felicity than other streets that were mentioned. FYI, Felicity is @ the 1800 block of Magazine
