re: Do you know your high schools alma mater?
Posted by deriddertigah on 2/11/21 at 7:19 am
Don't really know if we ever had an alma mater. I don't recall ever hearing it if we did. But, I do know that our fight song was Jole Blon. It was played loud and proud on Friday nights while the old men in the stands held up their pints of brown liquor, lol. A different time for sure.
Sadly, ...

re: Does anyone collect matchbooks?
Posted by deriddertigah on 1/4/21 at 7:44 am
I have the ones that my Grandfather collected. Those would go back to the 30's and 40's, (I'm 57 years old). Some of them are really cool. Local interest one... The Monteleone Hotel matchbook has a cartoon looking carousel bar on it. Some from surrounding small towns that featured businesses tha...

I don't totally agree. Kids do add an air of excitement, but... My wife and I got up and had coffee and cinnamon rolls while we got lunch going for our adult kids and their spouses. We will eat, open gifts, and then have a few drinks out on the patio this afternoon/evening. Family is family and C...
re: Anyone plan on getting the C19 vaccine when released?
Posted by deriddertigah on 11/18/20 at 7:45 am
Never taken the flu vaccine and have only had one pretty bad case of it in my adult life. I'm 57 and in good health, (no meds, etc.) with what seems to be a good immune system. So I guess my question is why should I? If the majority of gen pop is taking it wouldn't my chances of contraction lik...

Primary changes have been taxes and fuel prices. Other than those, not too much variance in my little corner of the world.
ETA: The trickle down of bad economic policy does hit everyone. I was thinking more in terms of stuff I notice very easily, as opposed to the price of groceries, etc. ...

re: This is overkill but SuddenLink doesn’t give two craps about Lake Charles
Posted by deriddertigah on 10/6/20 at 6:19 am
I am trying to divorce Suddenlink for the terrible customer service as well. Biggest frustration is the inability to ever get a human on the phone. I was supposed to get set up with DirectTV after a month long install wait that began during Suddenlink's outage from Laura and they no showed yesterd...

Not trying to be an arse...but if you've already been around some elderly people, what good is the testing going to do you now? You've either exposed them or you haven't. They'll either get sick or they won't. I'm not trying to be dismissive, I'm really just curious as to the motivation. ...

As a person that knows many educators and admins I can tell you that MOST of the anxiety they feel is because of the uncertainty of how the logistics of social distancing, etc is going to play out in the day to day classroom environment. I am actually yet to hear a single teacher that I know expres...
