Dude if you knew what you were arguing against you would think twice before typing.

1)This happened after the civil war (and slavery).
2)These police were not catching slaves as they were no slaves to catch
3)The metropolitan police force was created during reconstruction to be a fully integrated force (blacks included). I'd make a bet at least a couple of the officers that died defending New Orleans were black.

You know this how? How much one pays in taxes does not dictate whether or not that person has a say in what goes on in their community. Y'all are some stupid fricks I swear.

They DGAF about how the hard-working taxpayer's money is spent.

Also just because you pay more doesn't mean you are more hard working then the next person.

I mean I am sure a brick layer works harder than I do but pay more in taxes than that brick layer.

Idiots with all these false narratives. You still mad and them statues still coming down.

your point of whether some residents want them removed, I'm sure some do, but let me ask you this- what residents wanted them removed before Landrieu decided for the minority population to remove them? Most people didn't even know the obelisk was there before he said a word, much less what it was memorializing.

It's worse than that.

If you recall the present shitshow started as a result of that POS racist murdering scum Roof who murdered those people in that Charleston church.

So, basically anytime some scumbag does something horrible it's okay to use that as an excuse to force unnecessary societal/cultural change hundreds of miles away in ways completely unrelated to the incident. So we're doing that now.

Sounds like the shopped independent contractors and did not get a quote they liked. Decided it would save the city money to use its own staff and resources

Yea, I'm indifferent to the whole statue removal thing, the only issue I had was pissing away money doing it. If this is the reason they used firefighters, then honestly it was a smart move.

New Orleans, LA – Until the late 1700s, New Orleans was ruled by militaries. When crime reached
high levels in the 1790s, Spanish Colonial Governor Baron de Carondelet called for the creation of
a police force. Throughout the years it changed hands, structures and names. There was the
Guard Deville (City Watch), various militia groups, and by 1817, more than four dozen officers
patrolled four separate police districts. By 1852, it had grown to include a police chief, a group of
12 commanding officers and more than 300 policemen. The Civil War caused disruptions in the
department, and it was reorganized and purged numerous times through the rest of the decade

History of NOPD

Nice try.

So you think that the metropolitan police didn't exist?

I'm not sure what you're alluding to?

Serious question- How many black officers in the metropolitan police were chasing down slaves in 1874?

Also are you claiming Tulane is wrong?

the only one I care about is at Lee circle
it is an iconic part of the New Orleans hardscape and one of the defining landmarks of the city. regardless of how you feel about the appropriateness of confederate monuments, this particular one means more than that to New Orleanians

Dude shut the frick up. Don't try and worm out of this. I stated the New Orleans Police would catch run away slaves. You claimed that there were not police in New Orleans until slavery ended.(Which is the stupidest fricking thing to say regardless whether you acknowledge they caught slaves or not).

Race relations is a made up thing that doesn't exist it is merely a political talking point.

I can appreciate that you don't understand this.

Ah finally the real side of you comes out. Neither you nor the vast majority of blacks in New Orleans that are supporting this boondoggle care about these monuments. The vast majority of the city black and white can't tell you where most of these statues are located and can't tell you any facts about the soldiers on each monument. You support this as a middle finger to whites and that is it. Rather than wanting the city to spend this money on police and schools, which this city needs desperately, you'd rather this little "win".

Hopefully once these monuments are down this will finally allow the African American population in this city get out of the basement in every measurable statistic available.
