Wasn't the entire bus singing and chanting the slurs? Why do we only care about the few unlucky ones who happened to be in camera view?

Because they're both racist AND stupid.

Honestly, I don't think the kid is probably a racist, but he's probably very shallow. The fact that he would sing such offensive lyrics simply to fit in shows a lack of character more than vile racism.

True.

I am shocked he hasn't grown up a little after all these years.

by they way nice job southeastern united states. most of the headline grabbing racist stuff has been either in the northeast or midwest.

Well, I don't think he should have been kicked out of school, nor do I think his actions make him a bad person- just an idiot. That would put me squarely in opposition to the mob calling for his head- so I guess I'm "taking his side" and I'm sure I'm not alone.

I would stand in between the mob and him with you. What he did was wrong but what the media and society is doing is a greater evil.

true. he could probably recite "the true gentleman" sitting in a trashcan full of ice water while tabasco was being poured into his eyes but he damn sure didn't understand what it meant.

the fact these young dumb idiots all knew the words to this song to sing it in unison is pretty weird. and what better way to impress the ladies amirite?

What's the evil that is going on here? That actions have consequences?

I agree with you SS. He ought to man up .... or put on black face, record that song as a rap song and get rich. Maybe even shoot a black drug dealer and get famous too.

They certainly do. Chanting racist words certainly gets you kicked out of that school, it doesn't warrant the attention and shaming that's going on here.

This is surely his greatest trial of his life. I hope he doesn't grow up bitter and resentful, but I fear he will.

The way society passes judgments on hear say and snapshots is a scary thing. We all do and say stupid shite if you don't think so you are a liar.

What the masses have done to this boy is disgusting. Sure he should have been reprimanded and deserved being kicked out of the university. But something is really wrong with all of you getting enjoyment out of this kids ruined life. If you get enjoyment out of this I hope someone documents you at your worst and uses it to it ruin your life even if it is a 11 second snapshot judgement upon your entire existence.

Seriously empathy and compassion is the only thing that can heal. All of this social justice will only divide and cause more violence and destruction. What's wrong with everyone in this thread?

I should note that I personally get no joy out of this. I'm personally okay with the university decision, because a hard lesson will be taught to those boys. However, I think a learning opportunity was lost here. The president could have dismantled the frat, suspended the kids, yet had them face a jury of his peers, meaning the black student union and others that they offended.

What happened here is what has happened far too often in our "racial history"; instead of dealing with the problem, we run from it. The door to discourse was closed. So how is this kid supposed to learn from this when he runs back to his homogenous enclave in southlake, carroll?

I would have made him stay on campus, (ensure their security), but have them face the music. The only way they will see/feel the damage they have done is to see it in the eyes of others. I highly doubt they will get that in their family environments.

I fear that took, and all that breeds is more hatred and racism, sadly.

He needs to understand why people are so upset, and I dont think that running into mommy and daddys hands or away from this accomplishes that.

I agree with you there. Solid post.

There's no discourse, just rabble rabble and pitchforks.

He deserves to have judgment passed on him in this case. He may not be a shitty person but he's got horrible judgment and either is racist or follows the crowd.
