re: Have you ever snuck in an ingredient that someone "didn't eat"?

Gluten-free, on such a scale, is just the bogeyman of the moment. It's a fad. That's what I'm saying
I gave you a pass on okra and I'll give you a pass on this. Not that long ago, whole wheat and, even before that, wheat germ were all the rage.

I fried 5 pounds of Sheepshead for my wife's family, which none if them supposedly eat family and told them it was speckled trout. It all went.

Like if they claim to be "gluten-free" or vegan or vegetarian or didn't like okra or some other vegetable or stuff, and so you say "Oh no, there's none of that in there".
I have an onion sensitivity. About 3 hours after eating onions, I get the trots. Many times I've "discovered" that someone put onion powder in something that they said they didn't. If you did this to me, you would wake up with a puddle of runny crap on your front porch.

Same with the "gluten-free" whatever.
I will add that my mother has to eat a gluten free diet. They removed a section of her large intestine 2 years ago because the lining was so damaged that she was losing blood. It wound up being Celiac. Once she cut out gluten in her diet, her intestines began to heal. If she has anything with gluten in it, about 2 hours later she is doubled over in pain and is in bed for the next 12-24 hours.

Maybe some people missed my meaning. I'm definitely not saying if someone has a real allergy I'm going to feed them something harmful. I stated that several times.
But picky eaters. Or self-righteous types, or those who "don't like such and such", (and I get those. I have some "new age" hippie kin, and they bring their friends over sometimes. They all like my cooking) I take it as personal challenge to either get them to realize they're being irrational, or sometimes just to make myself laugh.
It's not malicious. A prank at worst.

Ten years ago the only people worried about gluten were those with celiac disease.
So...as people ate more and more products with gluten, the incidence of sensitivities and hyper-sensitivities increased, (much like peanut allergies). I heard of 1 kid when I was growing up that had a peanut allergy. Now, you hear about it everywhere. I'm sure people are just making that up, too...because it is so en vogue to not eat peanuts...right?

Several times you mentioned "like gluten". Are you going to perform allergy testing to make sure that their allergy is "real" before your stupid test?

That is because you are a douche.

No. You are saying that if someone claims to have an allergy then you are going to assume he is lying. You are going to out self righteous him.

Too much cleanliness, not enough germs.
Not exposing your kids to nuts in fear that they might be allergic, or overreacting if they get a little flushed when the eat peanut butter.
In short, we're making our kids too soft by being overprotective

No...you are really this stupid.
I don't know about this whole gluten allergy thing either. I agree with OP. I think its a fad.

You really are ignorant on how hypersensitivity develops in the immune system...aren't you?

Man, how did so many of y'all survive in a world of scary gluten before you knew gluten was the cause of all of life's problems.
Y'all don't think that maybe the gluten thing is a little overblown?

They have been increasing the amount of gluten in products for years. It is a protein binder. They passed a threshold where a segment of the population began developing hypersensitivity to it. The bread we eat today is vastly different than what they were making 40 years ago.

Your mom said she had a semen allergy. I told her that I pulled out.
I didn't.
I didn't.

this is because we started introducing peanuts later and later to our kids in fear of the allergy
recent studies have shown that the later you introduce something to a kid, the more likely they are to form an allergy to it
so, in short, give your kid peanut butter early and he/she is less likely to have an allergy to it

Just said the same thing. Got called an idiot. Apparently peanuts are just more evil than they used to be.

Yes...the immune system sees the protein as a invader and elicits a defense to destroy it (which may be localized or systemic). With that being said, it may result from late introduction or by a change in the immunoresponse to the protein. There are people who will eat a food for years with no symptoms, then will eat it one time and will experience a hypersensitive response.

well, to be fair, you have mostly been an idiot in this thread

why would you marry a vegan?
Posted on 1/29/16 at 3:56 pm to oldcharlie8
My sister use to refuse to eat fish. So my mom fried chicken a couple of times in fish fry and then she cooked some fish in the same fish fry. Sister said "man the chicken is better than ever". Props to her for that.

Depends on their attitude. My gf is vegetarian, but she has no problem with me getting a half vegetarian half meat lovers pizza.
