I had to fire someone a few months ago. He wasn't listening to my warnings and how he needed to complete his tasks. He said he didn't see it coming at all which reaffirmed I was making the right decision. He's a nice person but at the end of the day it's still a business.

How do you physically fire someone?

Just wondering; I've always thought you verbally did it?

I volunteered to do it this last time, but one of the owners did it. Super nice guy but he screwed over a handful of people, none more than me, and he was given all the chances and support he needed.

Young, lazy know-it-all that will probably be better off for the experience.

So no, but I've tried.

I'm about to layoff 50 guys the week after Christmas. I'll probably be joining them. Sucks.

There is no way I could remember all the people I have fired. Some I looked forward to and some I dreaded. There will always be one that hurt me to the core. I recruited and hired a guy away from a competitor, 3 months later I had to let him go because we went off shore for all of our product. Him and his wife had just had their first child. I could barely look him in the eye when I called him into the break room to tell him. I let 30+ people go that day and he is the only one I remember from that day. That was 15 years ago.

Yes, ran off bunches of people. You normally don't fire good people, you fire turds. Don't feel bad about firing a turd.
