Have you had to look a man or woman in the eye and tell them they no longer have a job? No longer have a income to feed their kids?

How did you handle it emotionally?

didn't bother me a bit. They usually fire themselves. I just make it official.

now laying someone off , especially around the holidays- is tough.

by the time it came down to firing her, she had had plenty of chances to get her act together. It wasn't personal, it was a business decision brought on solely by her actions.

Only after giving the person two years worth of extra chances to fix their problem. At that point, I didn't feel bad at all.

Yes, dude was a perve and kept hitting on every woman in the office messaging them and emailing them to go to lunch or on dates. Wouldn't take no for an answer. He was warned twice to stop and wouldn't. No remorse.

I just don't think I could do it unless the person was stealing or physically assaulting someone or something.

Twice. One deserved it, one didn't. Neither one made me feel very good.

Yes. One guy. 20+ years ago. He called me last year. He said he knew he had it coming. We are friends.

People who are fired usually do it to themselves ...

Its laying some one off that's harder to deal with.

Yes, a few times. The last was due to threats two employees made against each other, with one reaching for a box cutter. It is a hard thing to do. But certain actions have consequences and other employees have to know that. Emotionally, you just have to let it go. It wasn't my fault and there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Employment is a privledge and has to be earned. We are all one bad choice away from losing our jobs (except for those lucky SOBs that work for themselves)..
