and regarding the cure vs treat debate, many of the diseases that are treated such as diabetes and hypertension are chronic because the underlying cause (poor diet and lifestyle) are not changed. We can "cure" high blood pressure and high blood sugar, but after we get them down, if the patient goes back out and continues to do those things that got their blood pressure and sugars up to begin with, then the problems with come back.

Obviously.
If we landed on Mars it would too.
But there are MAJOR medical breakthroughs these days that SHOULD be on the front page headlines that aren't because the front page headlines have a dickless Olympian or black people getting "policed" on them.
If the artificial heart was invented in 1955 I promise it would be headline news.
They are capable of doing a full FACE TRANSPLANT now. In 1955 that would be considered some SciFi shite. Maybe people are just numb to breakthroughs now and don't care as much?
There have been plenty.

What's this "we" shite? You got a lab coat? You helping figure shite out?

OP, you forgot that Jenny McCarthy discovered the cure for autism.

I meant "we" as in the human race, but yes I have a lab coat and I have an I do help figure this shite out

If that's true then my bad. Good job on furthering the race. It's just a pet peeve of mine when people claim accomplishments achieved by others just because they're the same species. 99.9999% of us are non contributing pieces of shite and we should recognize that and give credit where it's due.

I think the majority of the people that need insulin in the US are not born that way, but eat that way. No one is making them dependent on insulin, they did it to themselves.

no worried dude, we all contribute something. If it weren't for garbage men, plumbers, and mechanics I'd be pretty useless

There's no incentive to cure that shite. It's too lucrative to just treat it.
You don't know how medicine works. Hospitals want shorter lengths of stay and curing disease is good. Not every patient has unlimited funding. Medicare and insurance providers don't just pay whatever gets billed. Big Pharma may have a financial interest in a person being sick, but they would have a greater interest in being the first to market with a cure.

in 1981, my grandfather had a heart attack and lay in the hospital for three months because he was too sick to transport him to Houston, which was the only place that did bypass surgery. He finally passed after a lot of suffering. Today, it's bypass, rehab, and back to a normal life within a few months for a lot of people. That's a huge advance. Not to mention that cardiovascular events that have been prevented by BP and cholesterol meds.

There are cures. My FIL has been in cancer research for most of his medical career. They have a very simplistic cure. Guess who didn't want any part of the procedure that has at most 2-3 flu like side effects post procedure? American Cancer Association. They cited reason as being they didn't like the flu like symptoms. Because chemo is so much better!
They're currently in trial with dog tissue at vet school. Human tissue trials to begin next year. Cynically I wonder if it'll ever work out. But I pray to God it does.

There will never be a cure for cancer

people have to keep paying for the solution.
Cures dont make money. Making people dependent on medicine to stay alive (a la Insulin) does.
Meh, this argument doesn't hold much water with me, especially if you're inferring that medical breakthroughs are withheld for financial reasons.
There are moral and financial incentives to generate viable treatments for Alzheimer's, yet we basically have nothing of the sort.
