No it's not that simple. There is something that went terribly wrong for someone to say that to their parents.

The parents are smart and KNOW that their offspring are dysfunctional. They were part of the problem. I have friends who do not allow their kids to be mean to each other. My parents say nothing and have allowed it to go on my entire life.
The ONLY reason I am around is because they need help and no other sibling lifts a finger.
Not a brag, just the sad truth of the situation.

While I wouldnt consider actually "cutting off" my family, the bullshite that my mom causes every year has made me truly hate when any significant holiday is approaching. No matter what we do, my mother has this bullshite idea that you cant celebrate any holiday on a date other than the actual day and then when we do go there on the holiday, we supposexly dont stay long enough.
If it werent for the kids, I could care less if we had Christmas every 5-10 years.

I haven't spoken to be following family members since (reason):
Father 1989 Death
Mother 1996 Death
Sister 2004 Death
I'm glad the rest of my clan is normal enough to have relationships with on a regular basis.

This is the issue with my mother in law and her siblings. We never see them any other time of the year but must celebrate holidays with them on the east day of the holiday. Ummm no I save that day for people I actually spend time with and make an effort to be a significant part of my life.

Sadly, only my dad during the holidays. Love seeing and spending time w/ family including the in laws..
My dad is just awful to be around during holidays. Extremely negative, pessimistic and non-jovial type person. Ruined quite a few xmas' for family members due to being a flat out arse.
