And I'm not doing the family thing on NY Day.

I'd rather take a bullet.

I grew up in the Northwest and wanted out while in high school. I only applied to schools out of state. Used that to get out. Was having differences and arguments too often and thought getting away would be good. Moving two states away eventually turned into movInc cross country. I rarely make it home for the holidays but things have improved a whole lot. When we do get together things are great. The phone works on both end so we can talk whenever we want. My sister eventually moves cross country as well only she went North. Our family has grown closer. I feel it has mad everyone pick and choose their battles much better. Recently my sister got married and the question was how would everyone get along. It was as it should have always been. A great time and we even took pictures together. Nothing wrong with getting yourself space in my opinion.

No need for this. Don't blame a generation for your brother being a piece of shite.

NY Eve alone? No, I usually go around the corner from the parents to watch the pyromaniac set off 30 minutes of fireworks.

But if I wasn't going there, I'd be alone.

It doesn't bother me. I am not a party animal. Rarely drink.

Why are you so concerned about my holiday?

My wife and her sister aren't speaking. My wife it taking it worse than her sister. Holidays bring out the frustration.

My mother is a terrible human being, and always has been. I knew this growing up, but it became clear just how terrible she is after my father died. I don't speak to her, and have no desire to, or have any feelings towards her. I get along perfectly with the rest of my family. Bringing life into the world does not excuse you from your actions, and it most certainly doesn't make you worthy of respect.

Nope but staying with my grandmother has been really rough. Like she is an unreal amount of negative about everything.

If you're talking about me, I'm not negative.

There are long standing family issues which makes family gatherings MISERABLE.

I'd rather be alone and happy then deal with people's crap week in and week out. Parents have never stepped in (from the time I could walk) to say said behavior was unacceptable in their house. If it's not one sibling, it's another.

I'm done with it. Well done.
