If it was offensive to him why did he respond back to me with "LOL. Wow"
Someone doesn't have their sarcasm meter on.
"Wow" is the #1 response I have when someone offends me via text

I think he has the wrong idea of the word.
I can see how someone from Louisiana might just be trying to break a little ice by referring themselves as a coonass. I've grown up with several family members proud to be coonass and never seen it used in a derogatory way.
Pretty Anal of him no doubt. I guess use Cajun or Acadian-Americans, ha
He should not have responded lol wow. The wow part shows he has a misunderstanding of the term and the lol part isn't cool if he assumed it was a racist term.. If you are so against it then shouldn't laugh.. Not even to try to fit in for the moment

Eh.
If someone said the n-word in a work e-mail, I could easily see myself being so shocked that I laugh out of shock.
I don't think he was laughing to "fit in".

The guy even responded back "lol.wow". And then called hr
Sounds like after hitting send on the lol response guy went into full CYA mode realizing he documented himself laughing at term that may be flagged due to having coon or arse in email, because if he truly was offended he would not respond "lol".
Did this guy even know who this term was describing? Did he think term offended Cajuns or that was derogatory towards blacks (even You were referencing yourself)?

This is the kind of crap that gives HR a reason for being.
He's a real prick for reporting you, IMO.
That said, lesson learned.

Actually Laughing to yourself out of pure shock is different from typing out and then sending email (or text) with an "lol".

I can vouch for that.

I love how nobody is bitching about "lol" being sent in a corporate/business email.
"lol" makes me cringe almost every single time I've ever seen it. I've never used it personally, and feel bad when others do, especially men. I don't know why, and maybe it's irrational, but I fricking can't stand "lol."
(I'm good with the actual emoticon though)

If you're too stupid to know not to curse or be unprofessional in email conversations with the corporate office, you deserve to be fired.

I miss your work email copy/paste threads.

Maybe for you, but I've definitely typed out actual laughter when someone said something so rude/offensive that I wanted them to know I was laughing AT them.
I think it was a weird response for a work e-mail though.

I actually had an incident yesterday. Someone here (the person whose emails I have posted before) tried to get smart via email and blast me, and I responded in kind. But in the end it pissed some people off and I shouldn't have let myself get dragged into petty bullshite.
But it really pissed me off when she sent it, and I felt like I had to say something...I just went a bit overly smartass.
