I call my best friends bitches all the time. I would never start a work email like I do a personal text with, "Hey Bitch" bc I'm not an idiot. I wouldn't mean it to be offensive but I would still get in trouble for it bc it isn't professional & work emails represent the company.

I call one of my good friends "Ni@@a" bc that's what she calls me. It's a long running joke. I would never put that in a professional email bc. it's not professional.

It's really not that hard and certainly not the best case to make an anti-PC stance.

A high percentage of people not living in LA think coonass is a racial slur about black people.

Early 30's.

Make no mistake, I understand why he got in trouble. It was someone's job to smooth things over and the easiest way to do that was go after the guy who sent the email.

No offense, HR departments are some of the worst additions to the american workplace.

HR departments are a direct response to our litigious society.

They do little to curb litigation.

I've dropped the term a few times and found out later they thought I was talking about blacks.

I don't use it around strangers now to avoid the issue

Same which is why I just use the n-word now

That's funny. You have no idea how many times I've wanted to tell employees our the agar Managers reporting to me to go do something productive and stop whining.

I had one location where an entire dept was women and I was getting calls daily with complaints about total bs things. 2 groups of women hated each other and no conflict resolution worked. The 3rd time I went out there and conflict resolution broke down I began hiring their replacements. 2 weeks later, I called them all in and fired them all for their inability to maintain a professional work environment.

You can't control if someone sues you or not. They do a great deal to manage the cost of doing business in today's America - ie payouts. There are scores of studies showing it and I would propose that HR Execs will have an additional degree in the next 20 years. They already have additional certification but it's voluntary right now (but no one hires someone who doesn't have it anymore).

I know everytime I have had investigations done by HR it is a joke.

They usually never have the required info when making a decision because no one wants to risk talking to them.

I get the idea behind the departments, but only time we ever see them is when they were looking to discipline. So it makes it easy to keep the department in the dark.

Not sure if it is true everywhere, but they didn't seem to stay in one spot very long.

But they usually only say anything about what was reported to them

They're just responding. Not the ones making the initial complaint

Sounds like you have a bad HR dept. I've never lost a lawsuit bc I have everything I need before I take action and my employees trusted me to do the right thing. Once you spend time with employees and they trust you - and see you be consistent - it's really not that hard to get people to talk. Most people really want to work someplace bs free and managed consistently.
