I get that. Here's a hypothetical. Say someone files a complaint to HR for offense and derogatory language but his complaint and feelings are based on ignorance to the true meaning of said word. How do u think that plays out with hr?

HR is usually some split tail that couldn't hack it doing anything else. They're not usually the sharpest tool in the shed. And they're usually frightened of lawsuits.

So you could sit there and explain it to them, but they're not going to care. They will 9 times out of ten take the side of the "offended" party.

A meeting about emails

They used a lot of the BP spill emails as examples and enron and others. But the BP was a big one because people were making jokes in emails about employees and contractors complaints about safety issues

We have been instructed to always compose emails as if you're writing a business letter. And having meetings or phone calls are preferable

I would take my time and wait for the party to make a little joke in an email then go to HR and demand results.

The sticks and stones saying has forever been lost. We are offically a bunch of hairy virgin pussies and I predict only a tragedy like in France will bring us out of it.

There is a huge difference in these two scenarios. Even you should be able to figure it out.

Yes. As I said there were other less serious examples

And those people didn't know their emails would be called into court. Even people who were unaware of what was going on. And text messages are discoverable also

I don't think it was unprofessional. Then again I am not looking for things to be offended by.

I'm rarely offended and think this was bs for the employee to report him (I have over 15 yrs Exec HR experience) but why is everyone ignoring that the accepted origins of the term are definitely offensive and likely racist? I'm a coonass and use the term but I do so recognizing that it could be offensive.

If it was offensive to him why did he respond back to me with "LOL. Wow"

Because it wasn't meant as racist or offensive.

Several years back a BR official was fired for using the term ****rdly. Someone was offended because they are ignorant.

See, even TD censors a legit word that is in no way racist.

Idk I agree it was a bs issue. But maybe the Wow comment was his way of showing shock at your comment.

Regardless, the business place isn't a good environment for fighting the anti-PC war.
