Something is amiss in the medical field when it is turning out these quacks that can see patients and prescribe medicine. I've seen NPs before out of necessity, but today was the last one.

I've never had a high opinion of general practice physicians, I think it's obvious they didn't exactly set medical school on fire, and typically have no idea how to diagnose your issue and just nod while scribbling a Rx for whatever drug they are being paid to push.

But NPs are an even further departure from that. Basically they are nurses who held on long enough to slap NP on the end of their name (and maybe had to study late for a few tests, wow, that sounds incredibly arduous). Sorry, I've known too many nurses before they were nurses to even attempt to have a high opinion of that field.

I would be pretty upset at how they are encroaching on the medical field, and are not doing real doctors any favors.

Agreed, all of the Urgent Care's that have popped up around Lake Charles are filled with NP. Expressway money machine. Only worth it if you have a common cold, other than that, I'd go to my family Dr.

A nurse practitioner actually saved my life a few years ago. I was suffering with a terrible lung disease and had gone to several specialists but none could figure out what was wrong with me. I ended up in an instacare and the NP was the one that diagnosed me properly.

I'll just say that it was a NP who actually figured out what was wrong with my child AND put him on medication to help with the issue. Two or three pediatricians either couldn't or wouldn't ... they didn't listen as well as the NP did.

I'm a huge fan of NPs .. granted I've not had a personal bad experience with one and we haven't had any emergency type situations but I'm good with them.

You obviously know shite about the medical field based on your post. It's like that quote: "It's better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than open it and remove all doubt"

Like anything else they're going to be better as they get real world experience, are exposed to more things, and through personal motivation to be better and learn more. There are plenty of experienced nurse practitioners and PAs at the hospital I work at who I'd absolutely trust over several of the actual MDs who work there.

As a husband of a NP, and someone who often had to bear the brunt of filling in as both mother and father, frick you.

This is quite the broad brush stroke.

My wife is a Neonatal RN and is working on her NP. Some of the stories she can tell of dip shite doctors not knowing what they are doing would blow your mind. Slow your role. It sucks you got a bad NP, but often times the NPs that have had lengthy RN experience could run circles around some doctors.

The walk in clinics around here are great, they all have MDs there though

It's the pediatricians and GPs that suck at keeping appointment times

No, just educated enough to realize just how god damn stupid your opinion is on this topic. Particularly these two gems...

Brilliant analysis! Masters degree and Medical Degree are super easy, but I'm sure your trade school was pretty damn intense.
