I stayed in a cabin in Wears Valley a couple of weeks ago, I hope that was not impacted. Beautiful area.

I mean we saw the fires from Clingman's dome and other areas but they were not near Gatlinburg.

70mph wind gusts changed that yesterday

I was looking at a small cabin north of Downtown Gatlinburg off Annes Road.
I went ahead and booked it real fast.
Win-win as it was a super cheap place with nice view. After the LSU game in Knoxville next year, we are planning to spend next 3 days in nearby towns doing kid-friendly shite.
If owner loses the cabin, he can use my deposit for some good booze. If it's not destroyed, it'll not likely be this cheap in a month.

and prayers.

NOC but, they had fire burn across the road maybe 20 feet or so from The River's End restaurant.

I am very familiar with this area. my uncle actually started the paddle inn rafting co. I spent lots of summers there helping him. i still visit the area even though it had been sold twice since he owned it. is the rest of the gorge upstream from noc ok?

Only been to the area once but had a great time. We rented a cabin up in the mountains about 15-20 minutes from Dollywood in Sieverville. Hoping that area was spared as those were some really nice cabins.

There's been a lot of damage in the Nantahala. Not much structurally however, so in that respect we have been lucky.

70 homes reported burned in Wears Valley, 70 around Pigeon Forge and 200-300 structures lost in Gatlinburg. It's really bad it seems.

Dollywood came close but didn't burn. Ober Gatlinburg okay. Aquarium is okay. Main Street in Gatlinburg is okay.

Is the worst behind them? I can't seem to find any reports that this is close to being contained.

1/2" of rain fell early this morning that helped slow most wild fires to a crawl. There are many structures are still burning. The issue is high winds are expected to return tonight before heavier rains began in early morning. It may be bad again tonight.

All of Gatlinburg is closed and off limits as is south Pigeon Forge from traffic light #8 at Dollywood Lane all the way to Gatlinburg. Many areas around Gatlinburg are also blocked by down trees and barricades.

The original fire was from a suspected arson related blaze on chimney tops trail that began Thursday I think. It slowly spread as they attempted to contain it. Unfortunately extremely high winds came yesterday and quickly spread if towards Gatlinburg. To make matters worse trees taken down by winds started many other fires by taking down power lines. They were burning all over Sevier county until some rain slowed them early this morning.

Many were literally running for their lives trying to get off roads like Ski Mtn Road around Gatlinburg. Check out some shocking videos at wbir.com news website.
