Did the rain help or are the fires still burning?

We moved from wildfires to tornado type weather now and it's pouring. Rains helped a lot what they were dealing with was mainly structural fires last night.
The GSMNP is still dealing with potential fire issues and will be going out today to assess ongong fires. 15,000 acres have burned in the park/Gatlinburg area.

Elkmont campground and LeConte Lodge are completely intact, there was damage from falling trees to some Elkmont buildings.

I've looked online but cannot find any information on how the structures along Roaring Fork and Greenbrier schoolhouse fared. Anyone have info on this? My folks have been wondering, too.

Roaring Fork the loop east of GB? If so, all those old historic cabins are gone. The Alamo Steak house is gone. I saw some pics of a few large condo complexes destroyed.

Damnit...Roaring Fork loop is one of my kids favorite things to do in the mountains. I loved the old houses.

The Dollywood Foundation will donate $1,000 a month for six months to Sevier County families who lost their homes in the wildfires, the organization announced on Wednesday night

If that is per family...that is fricking generous as shite. Dolly Parton's not doing it for the recognition, but she better fricking get some if this is the case.

Wonder how many PoS vacation home/cabin owner/renters will try to scam Dolly over for trying to help the locals.

Doesn't really surprise me she is doing this, she has tried to help that area of the country for a long time. Big time Dolly supporter, she always tries to do right by her hometown.

My coworker owned a time share in one of the big ones there. He is worried they won't rebuild because G'burg made a law because of those buildings that you can't build as high anymore because they were fricking over the skyline. I secretly hope they don't rebuild them as high.

Sadly, there will be some and I hope they burn in Hell for it.

Same here. Didn't really know her story and her efforts until we started going to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge about 5 years ago. Very impressive.

Did the rain not put out the fires? Has there been any updates on those missing? What's going on with the father and brother looking for their mother and two daughters?

It doesn't sound like they were found dead yet, so still alive and possibly a non story that the media just tried to blow up or what?

Media reports make it sound like it knocked them down pretty good, but there's questions of whether there was enough rain to soak down the ground cover in case there's still any hot spots. Sounds like it has definitely helped.

Chicago Tribune story dated today (which would mean through yesterday) quoted them as still not having heard anything.

Which IMO makes it seem more and more like something happened to make it a non story. As in they were found just fine and the husband made it seem worse than it actually was?

Not a ton in the news right now, a bunch of search and rescue missions for missing people in a fire seem like it would be pretty big news. Just odd to me.
