Im going to call Jackson and Sharpton to see if they can help me bring awareness to this situation. Do I meet criteria in asking for help if Im white?

One is too many. There are gangsters that give kids money for doing well in school.

This just isn't true.

This is really a misguided statement.

Outside of the lower-social economic class of blacks, Jackson and Sharpton are pretty hated.

As a matter of fact, one of them was just booed off stage at a Ferguson Protest iirc.

They are seen as nothing more then race pimps.

That would be correct. That is one way the black people keep their own in line. An "Uncle Tom" is a really bad thing for them to be.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I'm saying this really a thing. I believe it to be a huge misconception.

The only time you hear this type of stuff is whites spouting off information about blacks or from really stupid black people.

Either way...

Personally I haven't heard this type of foolishness in like 20 years. Most blacks in poverty or bad situations, they want to get out and move on.

I'm not sure what your life experiences have been but they sure haven't been anything like mine. This man is spot on and I have no way to recall all the times I have heard such over my 65 years.

I wish you were right though.

Nothing special. I have a typical life for a 29 year old black male.

No misconception. I've been amongst black people all my days. Sadly I've heard it with my own ears and not very long ago. I can hardly imagine how much it is used when only black people are present.

I wonder about this based on what I have seen but that is a different topic. As it stands the people living in such conditions only look up to the wrong leaders to find a way out. It isn't in the best interest of these self appointed alpha leaders to help them out. The alpha leaders take their direction from the likes of A.S., J.J. and many lesser known figures. To go any higher gets into politics.

Sooo back to the subject, the thugs are kept in line by whatever means necessary including the calling of names ... which I have witnessed.

So how should they break out of this situation? Try taking direction and advice from successful people, many of which are black. It can be done BUT the successful black people are referred to as "Uncle Toms". NOBody wants to follow an Uncle Tom. And perpetual poverty and gov't dependency continues for the masses that don't want to be called some story book name.

Like I said, I've lived amongst it. Sad, very sad.

I hope you are living the American dream. On the good side of my life I have been around many successful black people. 2 have been my boss and another one was my bosses boss. The best boss I had in 33 years on one job was a black man from the Lafayette area. I stay in touch with him to this day.

So your nieces and nephews aren't considered "authentically black" because they don't rap and aren't gangsters and not because they're half white? And why is it you don't consider them authentically white?

Paper Bag Test

Racism within the black community is prevalent. And yes, a girl killed herself in Livonia because she was black and got good grades and acted too "white".

I don't consider them a color at all. They are just ho they are. Good kids (most of the time), who study hard, give my sister a hard time (which I enjoy because she was a brat).

Looking at them you would not be able to tell they are mixed race. The way they act is what they get called out on. Look if they are told "your only half black or white" I would not be saying people give them grief because they act white.

Not to be a dick, but yeah, pretty much. I've actually had black friends tell me how difficult it was to get out of an environment in which doing something to better yourself (e.g. studying hard, working hard, generally not getting in trouble), was considered a form of racial betrayal. American Black culture is, in most places I can think of (particularly in urban areas), dissociated with the notions of "putting your bucket down where you stand" and pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, and instead more associated with trying "hustle" and present yourself as someone who is not a bitch.

In fact, much of the purpose of John Singleton's "Boyz n the Hood" centered around this fact and how the lack of strong male figures in young black men's lives has eroded the pride that black people take in obtaining traditional notions of success.

Perhaps that is changing and I hope it is for the sake of future generations. Perhaps we can move away from a welfare state eventually, but politicians have a vested interest in keeping Black Americans poor and, therefore, dependent on the Governmental teet. And while I understand fully that Black Americans are not the only people in America on welfare, they are disproportionately on governmental assistance programs.
