Yeah I don't think the jail or military thing has been an option since Vietnam. I wish it was for more guys, we should make a bunch of people go to the military for $20k a year or go to prison. I'd be perfectly happy with that being a mandatory sentence for say drug users. Maybe it doesn't change them, but at least we are getting something for their time instead of paying for them to sit in a cell.

Also this is the same battalion (we were still a light infantry brigade in 2014) that had their own guys fight each other over a game of volleyball. We were at West Point to assist the cadets summer training

Same here. Maybe in 60's and 70's but not now. I was in from 200-2004 and did not meet one person. Actually a felon cannot even sign up for the military if I am not mistaken.

No you can't get out of trouble to enlist like the old days. Most ppl who say that too, it really didn't happen after Vietnam, like most other things ppl say it to sound hard.

If someone uses I'll join the military, it permanently disqualifies them from enlistment, just like recruiters are NOT allowed to talk to any prosecuter. Does it still happen, yes. Recruiters generally have"connections" with in the community, but if court documents state military service it's PDQ.

Also I wouldn't want frick ups in the military I know it still happens and that is the view that it's for frick ups, but when I was a recruiter I locked my office door to keep the Office traffic also known as "office trash" out. Would you want a turd watching your back in combat?

Last the army always think they're better where as today they can't meet annual enlistment numbers and have been allowing CAT 4 (under 31 on ASVAB), and handing out tons of moral or higher authority waivers than any branch. Yes they are the largest branch but sad they use lower standards and still can't make mission.

Well at least hhc is intact

Now that the brigade is again a mechanized brigade I wonder if they moved back to main post.

When I was there and in that brigade all of our ao's were brand new and not on the main part of base.

In the interest of full disclosure, I commanded a Charlie Company. I had JAG on speed dial and I knew all the MPs on a first name basis.

They really had Customs people there? Whenever we came back from overseas it was just one of the chiefs on the crew that was assigned as "customs guy" as a collateral duty. Pretty much every deployment was the same. He'd have everyone sitting in crews mess explaining the forms... then he'd say "Does anyone have anything to declare?" while shaking his head "NO".

I could have smuggled in all kinds of shite with no problems.

They just did a story on 60 Minutes about rampant cocaine use in the ranks of the USN Seals
