The potential for real good fuel mileage is there. People just drive them too hard to get those numbers.

No. I'm just going to guess you aren't well versed on the reputation/history of Ford diesel motors. With the exception of the 7.3, they are known to be pretty terrible.

Ford's gasoline engines do have a little better reputation than their diesels as of late.....although in fairness, almost all consumer products have a better reputation than the newer Powestrokes.

I'll agree with that. If you really tried it could more efficient but in ATL it just aint gonna make a difference with traffic.

Sweet truck, though. Told my parents if they ever wanted to sell it to instead lemme just sell mine and I'd take that one and pay the difference.

If properly babied 30mpg MIGHT be achievable.

Start spooling turbos and you're gonna burn a shitload of fuel. Power requires fuel. More power=more fuel.

Best I have ever gotten was mid 20s. But that's nice because when I get mine to 17 I get downright giddy.

I've been considering moving down from a 2012 Superduty to the new F-150 but going non-diesel concerns me on depreciation. I might just wait for the 2016 F-250 with the new body/interior. The heavy duty diesel trucks have been very kind to me on residual value. I used to tow a bunch but haven't in the past year or so.

A diesel in the F-150 would have sold me.

Unfortunately the 1500 Ram is not an option due to their shitty customer service when the rear end blew on my 2007 cummins with 40,000 miles and cost me $4,000. I will never own another Chrysler product after that POS and I vowed to tell everyone I knew how helpful Dodge wasn't even after the dealer and factory rep went to bat for me.

Chrysler puts out a pretty crappy product.

It's a shame they have the cummins contract instead of ford.

I love the Platinum, as I drive a '14 Ecoboost 4x4. Was a little reluctant to pull the trigger bc I knew the body style would be changing next year...... So frickin glad I did. Maxed out' 15 Platinum will set you back ~$64,000. Holy High Priced Half Ton!!

The rear end blew or the trans?

Meh. You know my feelings on that, so I respectfully disagree...especially when talking 2009+ trucks. We've owned numerous Chrysler vehicles since 2003 and haven't had a lick of trouble with any of them. I don't think they're perfect and am fully aware of their short comings, but I wouldn't say they're crappy...not now at least lol.

I'm right there with you. I have a 2010 Platinum and it has definitely been the nicest truck I've owned. I'm going to wait a few months after they come out and try to pick up one in Texas.

When I first posted in this thread I was actually headed to a Ford dealership.

After talking with them, the only problems they've had on the 3.5L Ecoboost was the condensation issue meaux brought up earlier in the thread. Said they had 4 of them that had to be fixed. Since then Ford has fixed the issue. That combined with everyone I've spoken to, and the things I've read, I decided to go with the 3.5L Ecoboost in the 2015.

I won't be towing much, and coming from the Triton engine I really like what I hear about the "get up and go" from the turbo.

Hope you figured out what you want.

Axles and hubs would be covered under the 100,000 mile powertrain warranty Chrysler had at the time. Did they cancel your warranty? What POS dealership was this?

We had some problems with rear ends on the craptastic Sprinters in that era, but they were Mercedes-Benz specific designs. The Ram uses a much better unit. All American trucks do.

The new ones are very impressive. I'd definately consider a Ram with the Cummins if I were getting an HD truck right now. I do remember a time when Ford had good, reputable diesel trucks, but that's not the case anymore. They are notoriously problematic vehicles, and they are very expensive to keep running.

IMO all vehicles made are crappy. They're built cheaply and given the option for one truck that costed $120k but lasted the rest of my life id jump all over it.

Unfortunately you'll never see that. Maximize dem profits.

I'll be looking at the end of the year. Not really knowledgeable when it comes to engines so don't know what engine would work best for me. Any help? Won't be towing a camper or anything. Will throw the kayak in the back which isn't much weight and hopefully tow a smaller boat in the future. Other than that I'll just be using it to run errands, work, etc. I travel about 10 miles to work daily. So Ecoboost or V8? Do I need the 4x4? I don't hunt so won't be off roading much.

A full sized truck would probably be overkill for that unless you really needed interior space.

All the domestic full sized truck competitors have very good V6 engines as standard equipment. The new 4.3L V6 in the GMC and Chevrolet trucks have the most horsepower, but Ram 3.6L is a very nice setup (some come with 8 speed automatics). The 3.7L in the Ford will be very hard to find if you want a crew cab, but it's not a bad motor.

The general rule for the base engine option in a half ton truck is half the power, same fuel drinkage.
