Were there any points when you wanted to transfer back or to another school OOS? I'm not to that point or anything but it sucks not knowing a ton of people.

If you're at Ole Miss I had a friend go there for 1 year after growing up in LA and going to LSU games his whole life. He transferred to LSU and never looked back.

Going to LSU from Chicago was pretty tough. I was immature at the time and almost went back home a few times, but I'm glad I stuck it out.

I think everyone feels some of that at various times no matter where you go to school.

You need to join an organization. Student newspaper or radio station, Newman Club/BSU/whatever, intramural or club sports team, ethnic interest club, etc. That's the only way you'll get to know people.

Yeah that's what I'm feeling, I just don't have any good friends here. I have a good amount of friends just none that I'm really close with.

You have to be really social those first few weeks. Never eat alone. Go as a group or ask to sit with people. The biggest mistake I see is waiting til October to work your social muscles.

Also, get into or make study groups. 4-6 people at a regular time.

Find a cool place and make it your own. A coffee spot, bar or whatever. Organize a tailgate and host an event. Join a club. Get out and be social.

Sounds like you're squandering precious time. Don't let that continue. Introduce yourself. Start a convo and get going. Shame on you for the slow start.

ETA: This is the easiest time you will ever have to make friends. The universe has put all these people around you and you'll never know why unless you stick out your hand and introduce yourself.

I mean I work at a bar but I'm not really meeting anyone doing that and it takes up all the time I have so I can't even go out with the people I do know

Transfers to out of state school where he doesn't know anybody. Is disappointed when he's lonely.

It's like you didn't even think about this predictable outcome.

In that case, you should at least recognize people around campus. That's enough to start some rapport in class or at the cafeteria. Smile and just do it.

College is not like high school. It's much more participatory. Jump in and get social. You get no points for being quiet.

Just do it. Thank me later.

Do you live in the dorms?

I was an out of state student and the people I made friends with from the dorms are still the ones I stay in touch with now, and the others I met through them.

I knew 3 people when I got to LSU.
