Foam Insulation Cost

Anyone have it in their home? Can you tell a difference in house temp, energy costs, etc. How much would installation be on an existing 2,100 sq ft. house. Anyone with any experience with something like this please comment.

would only be able to do the Attic on an existing and even then only the ceiling, not the rafters unless you are going to change the roof. Somebody correct me if I am wrong, but this is how it was 5 years ago when I built.

Only attic. 2 1/2 year old house. Just seems very very hot in attic and not a lot of insulation when I was walking up there. Hotter than any house I've had

I think stout has a pretty good bit of experience with that type of insulation...just keep this on the first page and he will eventually check in...

I am looking at the same thing on my home that I will be building next year. I know that I will get it in the attic and on the rafters but not sure the ROI is there on the exterior walls.

Me and a buddy blew cellulose insulation into his house in about 2 hrs and less than $300 bucks...contractor wanted $2k

Glad to see this topic, actually. This past weekend my folks had a radiant barrier sprayed in their attic and got additional foam insulation sprayed in as well...with a promise from the AC repair company that their electricity bill would be reduced by 25% on average.
Did they get hosed, or is this "energy efficient" home concept really the new thing I just need to understand better?

Yes, I did.
After seeing my electric bills (all electric except for gas cooktop), I am a firm believer in foam.

I recently built a house and did the exterior walls and the attic, and it has been a huge difference from our former house that was just the normal batten insulation. I'm not sure how much difference doing the attic only would be, but I would think it could only help.

I did the blow-in insulation. It was very easy and ran about $400-500 for the machine rental and 8 bales of insulation I bought.
Unfortunately, due to the way my townhome is positioned and the fact it shares an attic with the neighbor...it didn't help a ton. I think in a house it would work better. Worth a shot if you don't want to spend the money on foam - stuff is very pricey.
ETA: If you go foam, you need to be careful with open cell vs. closed cell. IIRC, with the humidity and rain we get in south LA, you'd want open cell. Closed cell will trap moisture and cause mold/rot.

I agree, something has to be real close to a window for me to hear it.
Can't be too much to add on a new build and it will pay itself off quickly.

Like $18K vs $12K. I think, very conservatively, the foam lower my electricity bill $100 per month. Thus, the payback is 60 months.
The other big payback is high SEER AC, but foam is the king.

I did not know that foam was better at reducing sound levels from the outside. The main reason I wanted to do the attic was to help the HVAC equipment that will be located up there.
