re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
It seems like it has flipped now, OSB look about $7 a sheet and styrofoam about $12. Does that sound right Stout?...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
That is exactly what they do in North LA. They use OSB in the corners and styrofoam for no more than 25 feet. It doesn't seem very strong but its also not like I see new homes falling over up here even during severe storms. I had two contractors tell me to go with styrofoam and one say OSB all the w...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
Good to know Stout. It is nice to get advice from someone that doesn't have a vested interest in the project. It is so hard to know when someone is telling the truth in construction or just doing it to make more money. ...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
If you were building a house here in North LA what would you use, OSB or styrofoam for sheathing? The few builders I have talked to all use styrofoam and said it cost them more than OSB. ...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
Apparently not in North Louisiana. Most homes are still wrapped with OSB in the corners and styrofoam all the rest of the way. ...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
Good to know Stout. I think most companies around here do all open cell in the attic and walls. So since I will be going with foam in the walls, I think I will use OSB for sheathing instead of 1/2 styrofoam. ...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
I did some more research about foam and most sites say it doesn't do as good of a job at sound suppression versus rock wool of cellulose. I have no first hand experience but just stating what I have read most places. ...

That seems like a pretty good price for that size of a home. I am going to start getting a few bids on my 2700 sq foot home soon. ...

re: Foam Insulation Cost - daviddsims
I did not know that foam was better at reducing sound levels from the outside. The main reason I wanted to do the attic was to help the HVAC equipment that will be located up there. ...

I am looking at the same thing on my home that I will be building next year. I know that I will get it in the attic and on the rafters but not sure the ROI is there on the exterior walls. ...

re: Opinions on Home Air Duct Cleaning - daviddsims
Flex duct has its place but only if installed correctly such as the last few feet of duct run for noise reduction. I am looking at using all hard pipe on my new home even though the cost will be significantly higher. ...

re: House Sheathing Material - daviddsims
Reviving an old thread but that must be pretty costly to do. Seems about 70% of builders in the Monroe area do OSB in corners and 1/2 inch styrofoam everywhere else. They say it provides better insulation and is actually more expensive than all OSB. ...

Debt to Income Ratio - daviddsims
I have been researching building a home and have finally decided to hire a GC to build. We have the lot that we bought and have been paying on for the past year and plan to build within the next year. When we get ready to go get the loan from the bank in construction, the bank said the more cash the...

re: Contractor Bids - daviddsims
I have had several people build and none exceeded their budget unless it was a clear change order at the home owners request. Maybe there are some bad ones out there but the ones I have talked to and had referrals had nothing but good things to say about the process and end result. That is why I am ...
